About the IAR and College Analytics Team

The Institutional Analytics and Research (IAR) team partners across the university to turn data into better outcomes for students. Within IAR, the College Analytics team supports academic leaders with high-impact insights, predictive models, and strategic planning tools. Our focus areas include:

  •  Closed Loop Analytics: Helping teams plan, execute, and evaluate initiatives using data-informed tools.
  • Driver Analytics: Identifying the key levers that influence student success.
  • Targets & Trajectories: Defining measurable goals and long-term outcomes for academic planning.

The Role: Lead Data Analyst

As a Lead Data Analyst on the College Analytics team, you’ll be a strategic partner, technical expert, and mentor. You’ll lead documentation of analytics and research needs for high-complexity projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and drive the adoption of data visualization standards. Your work will help WGU stay student-focused and data-driven.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead complex analytics projects and translate user needs into actionable data solutions.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop data pipelines and visualizations.
  • Solve challenging data issues and promote best practices for data quality.
  • Mentor team members and support strategic planning.
  • Communicate insights clearly to partners and leadership.

What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in Data Analysis, Business Intelligence, Data Science, Statistics, Decision Intelligence, Research, Learning Science, or Behavioral/Cognitive Psychology. [IAR Lead D...Analyst 1]
  • Advanced SQL proficiency (queries, subqueries, joins, aggregation, performance tuning).
  • Highly proficient in Tableau and Power BI for data visualization.
  • Expertise in conceptual and logical data modeling (dimensional models, star/snowflake schema, slowly changing dimensions).
  • Experience with descriptive statistics, causal analysis, inference, forecasting methods, and classification algorithms.

Experience in lieu of education

An equivalent combination of training, experience, credentials, or accomplishments demonstrating the ability to perform the essential functions of this job may substitute for education degree requirements.

Work Location: 

  • This is a full-time, in-office position at WGU’s headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT. You’ll work side-by-side with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, researchers, and educators committed to data-informed innovation.

Position & Application Details

Full-Time Regular Positions (classified as regular and working 40 standard weekly hours): This is a full-time, regular position (classified for 40 standard weekly hours) that is eligible for bonuses; medical, dental, vision, telehealth and mental healthcare; health savings account and flexible spending account; basic and voluntary life insurance; disability coverage; accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity supplemental coverages; legal and identity theft coverage; retirement savings plan; wellbeing program; discounted WGU tuition; and flexible paid time off for rest and relaxation with no need for accrual, flexible paid sick time with no need for accrual, 11 paid holidays, and other paid leaves, including up to 12 weeks of parental leave.
