Strategic Quality Engineering Manager
Skills
- 8+ years testing applications in production, with leadership experience scaling QA/SDET teams.
- Hands-on automation experience across functional, performance, accessibility, and security testing.
- Design, implement, and maintain test automation frameworks.
- Proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python; comfortable reviewing automation code.
- Familiarity with Go, Java, C++, C# and development on GCP and Microsoft platforms.
- Experience with unit, API, and web UI tests using frameworks like Playwright.
- Hands-on REST API and CLI testing experience.
- Understanding of IaC concepts and familiarity with Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, and Docker.
- Ability to define and report on quality metrics and KPIs, and balance quality with delivery speed.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor QA and SDET leaders; own hiring, performance management, and career development for the Quality Engineering organization.
- Define and own the company quality vision, multi-year roadmap, and key quality KPIs (bug escape rates, test pass rates, release confidence).
- Champion a unified 'One Quality' culture, integrating manual and automated testing across teams.
- Partner with Engineering and Product leadership to embed quality standards and shift-left practices throughout the SDLC.
- Own master test strategy and risk-based validation for major product releases.
- Standardize test processes, bug triage, release readiness criteria, and reporting across the organization.
- Own budget for tools, headcount, and training; advocate for resources at the senior leadership level.
- Drive tooling and infrastructure selection (automation frameworks, CI/CD, test environments) and guide test architecture evolution.
- Lead cross-functional post-mortems for critical quality incidents and implement systemic improvements.
- Contribute hands-on to high-leverage automation, framework improvements, and proof-of-concept evaluations.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field or equivalent experience.
