Responsibilities
- Triage incoming emergency patients and perform patient assessments
- Provide basic to intermediate nursing care, monitoring, and treatments
- Administer subcutaneous, intramuscular, and intravenous medications; monitor for adverse effects
- Set up, monitor, and manage IV fluid therapy, CRIs, and blood transfusion therapy
- Prepare and monitor patients under general anesthesia, including ventilated patients
- Perform advanced vascular access (jugular, central, intraosseous, arterial) and sampling line placement
- Collect samples, run point-of-care diagnostics, and assist with diagnostic imaging
- Perform and troubleshoot oxygen delivery systems and other respiratory support
- Participate in and lead patient rounds to ensure continuity of care
- Provide CPR as a RECOVER Certified Rescuer or trained provider
- Coach and mentor veterinary assistants and peers, and help manage patient care workload
- Document care in the electronic medical record and communicate with clients and teammates
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Credentialed as a veterinary technician (CVT, RVT, LVT, LVMT) in California
- Willingness to pursue additional certifications (e.g., VTS) encouraged
