Lock Desk & Secondary Marketing Analyst

About the Company

Valon is transforming both mortgage servicing and consumer direct lending with a technology-first approach. Backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and managing over $130 billion in loans, we’ve built our platforms from the ground up—not on outdated legacy systems—so homeowners, lenders, and investors experience greater transparency, efficiency, and care. By unifying processes into a modern, AI-native operating system, we’re leading the way in automation, compliance, and continuous improvement across our servicing and lending businesses.

Our mission is to empower every homeowner by making the mortgage experience simple, secure, and financially empowering. To achieve this, we bring together world-class engineers, servicing experts, lending professionals, and operations leaders who share a passion for improving the homeowner journey. We’re not only reshaping what servicing and lending look like today—we’re creating opportunities for talented people to help drive the future of the industry.

As we continue to grow, Valon is expanding its footprint across multiple states, opening the door to exciting new roles and career paths. Joining Valon means becoming part of a fast-scaling company where innovation, collaboration, and customer impact go hand in hand. Mortgage is just the beginning—we’re building the future of regulated finance, and we want you to be part of it.

Lending at Valon

Valon’s Lending team provides homeowners the ability to access low-cost and streamlined mortgage loans originated in-house, as well as Valon partners with tools to retain customers. Our primary mission is to recapture and cross-sell into our servicing portfolio: we aim to provide a compelling range of products with competitive rates with the goal of best-in-market retention rates. We employ a consumer direct sales model based out of our ops HQ in Phoenix, AZ. As with the rest of Valon, the Lending business is rapidly growing, with an annualized volume approaching $500mm in recent months.

About the Role

As Valon’s Lock Desk & Secondary Marketing Analyst, you’ll sit at the center of a fast-growing, consumer-direct mortgage lender. You will own the core processes that keep our rate locks accurate, our pipeline moving, and our pricing disciplined—partnering closely with Loan Officers, Secondary Marketing, and Capital Markets. Your work will protect revenue, reduce risk, and strengthen the operational backbone of Valon’s lending platform, with the opportunity to take on broader responsibility as loan volume and the complexity of our pipeline continue to grow.

You bring strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and an interest in how markets, interest rates, and pricing decisions drive the economics of a lending business. In this role, you’ll develop a front-line view into how lock strategy, extensions, and pricing decisions impact margin, pull-through, and pipeline risk—supporting disciplined execution in our secondary and capital markets functions. Over time, you’ll deepen your understanding of mortgage capital markets and have the opportunity to grow into more advanced analytics, pricing, or loan sale responsibilities within a modern, technology-driven lending operation.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily rate lock workflow by processing initial lock requests, changes, and extensions in Valon’s LOS, pricing tools, and investor portals in line with lock policies and investor guidelines.

  • Monitor internal and investor lock expiration reports to identify upcoming expirations, proactively notify Loan Officers and LO managers, and coordinate appropriate actions to minimize fallout and extension costs.

  • Track and manage items in the secondary marketing task dashboard, ensuring lock-related tasks are prioritized, assigned, and completed within established turnaround times.

  • Lock loans and submit updates with specific investors, ensuring accurate pricing, product selection, and terms based on investor programs and documentation.

  • Review and route lock extension requests, coordinating with the Secondary Marketing Manager to determine whether extensions are appropriate, whether fees apply, and ensuring timely updates with investors.

  • Intake, log, and route pricing exception requests; support the review and documentation of decisions, and communicate outcomes back to sales in a clear and consistent manner.

  • Update and maintain accurate records of all locks, changes, and extensions; assist with periodic reconciliations between internal systems and investor confirmations.

  • Support preparation and distribution of recurring reports and dashboards related to lock activity, pipeline exposure, and key secondary metrics.

  • Serve as a first-line point of contact for basic lock and pricing questions from Loan Officers, escalating complex or nuanced scenarios to the Secondary Marketing Manager as needed.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement by documenting procedures, identifying recurring issues or bottlenecks, and suggesting process or tooling enhancements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Ideal Background

  • Early-career professional with experience or internships in finance, capital markets, lending operations, or another analytical, process-driven role.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with high comfort working in spreadsheets (Excel/Sheets) and with numerical detail.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

  • Genuine interest in mortgage lending, interest rates, and how pricing and pipeline decisions impact the economics of a lending business.

  • Familiarity with operational systems (e.g., CRM, LOS, trading or pricing tools) and enthusiasm for learning new technology; prior exposure to lock desk or secondary marketing workflows is a plus, not a requirement.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to partner effectively with sales, operations, and other stakeholders.

  • Track record of taking ownership of recurring workflows while also suggesting improvements to make processes more efficient over time.

  • Self-starter mindset with a high sense of responsibility, curiosity, and willingness to grow into broader secondary marketing or capital markets responsibilities as the business scales.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years of professional experience in financial services, lending operations, capital markets, or another analytical, process-driven environment OR a bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Mathematics, or a related field.

  • Comfort working with numbers, interest rates, and spreadsheets (Excel/Google Sheets), with the ability to interpret and reconcile numeric data accurately.

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage a high volume of time-sensitive tasks while maintaining accuracy.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with Loan Officers, operations, and secondary/capital markets teammates.

  • Self-starter who takes ownership, asks thoughtful questions, and operates well in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

  • Minimum education requirement: High school diploma or GED equivalent required.

Benefits

  • Compensation: competitive salary and 401 (k) plan

  • Health & well-being: we’ll invest in your physical and mental well-being with comprehensive medical, dental, & vision benefits

  • Commuter benefits: We offer pre-tax deductions for public transportation, rideshare services, and parking expenses to make your commute more affordable and convenient.

  • Generous time off: 17 days paid time off, sick days, and 11 company holidays

  • Baby bonding time!: 12 weeks off for both birthing and non-birthing parents - fully paid, so you can focus your energy on your newest addition
