Systems Engineer – Embedded & Field Integration

Valinor Harbor is seeking a Systems Engineer to lead the integration of sensors, hardware, and embedded software for a forward-deployed trauma management system. You’ll build resilient, real-world software that interacts with medical devices and networking hardware under harsh conditions, and deploy it where it matters most: in the field.

• Design and implement embedded software and integrations for medical sensors and field devices
• Develop networking and serial communication pathways for hardware-to-software interfaces (e.g., RS-232, Modbus, CAN)
• Travel to test sites and field deployments to validate and troubleshoot hardware-software interactions
• Collaborate with full-stack, hardware, and clinical partners to ensure integrated system performance
• Contribute to rugged, production-ready software that operates in degraded or intermittent environments

• 5+ years experience in systems, embedded, or hardware-interfacing software development
• Strong proficiency in Linux-based systems (esp. embedded Linux, Yocto, or similar)
• Experience with low-level protocols and sensor integrations (e.g., serial, USB, I2C, BLE)
• Working knowledge of networking (DHCP, DNS, NAT, VPNs)
• Willing to travel for hardware bring-up, testing, and deployment

• Preferred: Experience in healthcare, patient monitoring, or medical device and sensor interfaces
• Preferred: Exposure to government, DoD, or telemedicine deployments
• Preferred: Familiarity with containerized software on edge devices (Docker, K3s)

This role requires the candidate be eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the TOP SECRET level.
