General Notes

The lab of Dr. Laura Colgin and The Center for Learning and Memory are seeking a Research Engineering/ Scientist Assistant to:

  • Provide administrative support to the Center for Learning and Memory

  • Provide technical assistance to research projects investigating the neurophysiology of learning and memory

The position is ideal for someone interested in gaining research experience in behavioral neurophysiology and/or neuronal underpinnings of learning and memory. The successful applicant will divide their time between the Center for Learning and Memory and the Colgin Lab in the Department of Neuroscience. Specifically, 25% of their time will be spent providing general administrative and clerical support to the Center for Learning and Memory, while 75% of their time will be spent performing research investigating the neuronal mechanisms of learning and memory.  

The position requires a general background in neuroscience, meticulous attention to detail, and outstanding organization skills.  Ideally, the position will start immediately, but the start date is negotiable. Initial assignment will be for one year. Subsequent renewal will be based upon performance review, progress towards research goals, and continuation of funding.

Purpose

To provide research and administrative support to Center for Learning and Memory and the lab of Dr. Laura Colgin for the Department of Neuroscience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Center for Learning and Memory Director with scheduling of meetings and appointments

  • Perform general administrative duties for the Center for Learning and Memory

  • Assist the Center for Learning and Memory researchers with administrative tasks as required

  • Sectioning and staining brain tissue

  • Photomicroscopy

  • Keeping track of lab protocols and records

  • General lab animal care

  • General laboratory maintenance

  • Constructing electrophysiological recording devices

  • Performing behavioral experiments in rodent models

  • Data analysis

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in neuroscience or a neuroscience-related discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior research experience in a neuroscience laboratory or a neuroscience-related laboratory

  • Experience working with freely behaving laboratory rats

  • Microscopy experience

  • Experience sectioning brain tissue

Salary Range

$36,000 + depending on qualifications
