Job Details:
Support the daily research operations of the imaging mass spectrometry facility. Conduct routine and advanced analyses, maintain instrumentation, and assist users with data interpretation and training.
Actively participate in data acquisition for facility users by analyzing samples. Provide feedback and guidance on theory and practice of imaging mass spectrometry. Engage in collaborative research with faculty and staff researchers, both in and out of UT-Austin.
Maintain and troubleshoot mass spectrometry instruments to ensure optimal performance and availability.
Provide technical consultation on sample preparation, experiment design, and data interpretation. Train students, postdocs, and other users on instrument operation and data analysis. Design and deliver training sessions or seminars to enhance user proficiency.
Contribute to scientific reporting, including methods, results, annual reports, and usage data for grants and publications. Stay informed about emerging technologies. Identify opportunities and contribute to proposals for new instrumentation grants.
PhD in chemistry or biochemistry or related field. Extensive experience (at least four years) with running mass spectrometric analysis using a variety of ionization methods, particularly DESI and MALDI. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Experience supervising staff in a scientific or core facility setting. Proven track record of maintaining and troubleshooting mass spectrometry instruments. Experience teaching or mentoring users in mass spectrometry methods. Strong background in imaging mass spectrometry. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a varied range of scientists.
$85,000 - $105,000
