Protective Intelligence Analyst

Overview:   

Supports the detection, analysis, and reporting of real-world threats to the Bank’s personnel, facilities, events, and operations.  Assists in intelligence collection, open-source monitoring, and foundational threat assessments. Works closely with corporate security partners to identify emerging risks and develop early warning intelligence to reduce risk to the organization.

Location: This role is based in Buffalo, NY. Open to considering candidates out of one M&T's main hubs within our footprint, but preference will be given to candidates based in Buffalo or who are willing to relocate


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Monitor open-source intelligence (OSINT), social media, and proprietary sources for threat indicators.
  • Support protective operations by gathering information on persons of interest, protest activity, and travel risks.
  • Develop daily situational awareness briefings and baseline threat reports.
  • Maintain databases and tools that support threat tracking and investigations.
  • Coordinate with teams across executive protection, event security, cybersecurity threat intelligence, business resiliency, and physical security.
  • Apply knowledge of basic data collection, tools, and methodologies to independently gather foundational intelligence data and determine the relevance and importance of the intelligence to the Bank’s Corporate Security.
  • Monitor and analyze intelligence provided by vendors, government agencies, and industry groups to remain current on latest threats, determine the relevance to the Bank, and draft reports and/or briefings in collaboration with  senior analysts.
  • Report insights gleaned from intelligence feed monitoring to internal team and participate in analysis for intelligence sharing initiatives with other organizations, information sharing groups, and industry groups.
  • Analyze historical data and patterns to identify trends and contribute to proactive threat mitigation strategies.
  • Identify common tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) used by threat actors based on observed activities and known behavioral indicators.
  • Conduct initial analysis of threats by compiling and sorting data, gaining insight into the analytical process.
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure appropriate intelligence is received and shared.
  • Organize collected intelligence into standardized formats for efficient analysis and stakeholder use.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.
  • Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
  • Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Scope of Responsibilities:

Partners with peers, manager, and Corporate Security team.

Leverages established directions, policies, and guidelines to accomplish work. Work is reviewed for accuracy and overall quality.

Basic understanding of OSINT, social monitoring tools, and protective intelligence fundamentals

Manager Responsibilities:
No supervisory responsibilities

Education and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Intelligence, or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in security, public safety, or intelligence capacity or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years’ higher education and/or work experience

Familiarity with threat behavior indicators and protective intelligence fundamentals.

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Prior work experience with open-source research

Strong organizational skills.

Knowledge of tools, techniques, and methodologies analyzing and mitigating threats.

Education and Experience Preferred:

Industry recognized certification

Experience evaluating, analyzing, and synthesizing large quantities of data which may be fragmented and contradictory

Understanding of different types of threats and basic understanding of motivations and methodologies

Understanding of what types of intelligence Corporate Security and the team(s) would benefit from receiving with guidance from leadership

Capable of quickly learning new technical skills

M&T Bank is committed to fair, competitive, and market-informed pay for our employees. The pay range for this position is $79,157.68 - $131,929.47 Annual (USD). The successful candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, and experience will inform their specific compensation.
