Senior Model Risk Analyst

Upgrade is a fast-growing fintech delivering affordable credit, mobile banking, and payment products to millions of customers. The Model Risk Management team seeks a Senior Model Risk Analyst to independently validate and challenge statistical and machine learning models across credit, fraud, marketing, and operations, ensuring robustness, regulatory compliance, and alignment with best practices.

Skills

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline (MS/PhD preferred)
  • 1-5 years of applied modeling or data science experience
  • Proficient in Python and strong SQL skills
  • Experience with modern ML techniques (Random Forest, Gradient Boosted Trees, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Model Risk Management and SR 11-7
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills
  • Ability to communicate technical findings to varied audiences

Responsibilities

  • Review and validate statistical and machine learning models across Credit Risk, Fraud, Marketing, and Operations.
  • Challenge model methodology, data processes, and outcome analysis to identify gaps and improve performance.
  • Assess model documentation, assumptions, limitations, and regulatory compliance (e.g., SR 11-7).
  • Perform quantitative validation tests, backtesting, stability and performance analysis.
  • Collaborate with Decision Science, Credit Risk, and other stakeholders throughout the validation lifecycle.
  • Research and evaluate new tools, techniques, and best practices for model development and validation.
  • Prepare clear written validation reports and present findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Provide recommendations to mitigate model risk and monitor model performance post-deployment.

Education

  • MS or PhD in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, or related quantitative field
