Senior Detection Engineer
Skills
- Proven experience with Endpoint (MDR) detection and one or more of Cloud/SaaS, Identity, Email, or SIEM
- Strong automation and orchestration experience for processing large telemetry/log volumes
- Ability to translate disparate activity into coherent threat analysis using critical thinking
- Experience with query languages and query syntax across EDR/security platforms (SQL, KQL, Lucene, etc.)
- Experience creating and tuning detectors/rules using tools like YARA, SIGMA, Snort, Splunk, Elastic
- Willingness and ability to work the required shift (Wednesday–Saturday, 5pm–3am MST)
Responsibilities
- Analyze EDR telemetry, alerts, and log sources across Endpoint, Identity, SIEM, Cloud/SaaS, and related domains using Red Canary’s detection platform
- Create, tune, and publish detectors/rules and actionable threat advisories for customers
- Research coverage gaps and develop new detection logic informed by threat research
- Automate and orchestrate detection workflows to handle high telemetry volumes efficiently
- Mentor and collaborate with peers and cross-functional teams to improve detection quality
- Lead projects that improve customer experience and internal detection engineering processes
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Relevant professional certifications preferred (e.g., GCIA, GCIH, OSCP, CISSP) but not required
