Job Description Summary

The Graduate Assistant for the Vice President of Student Affairs is a position in the Division of Student Affairs working directly with the Vice President’s Office responsible for a wide variety of tasks and duties that contribute to the Division of Student Affairs and the University. These responsibilities include being an efficient, effective, positive team player assisting with: the Made by Us Marketplace including hiring and supervision of student workers; coordinating selection of student artists/entrepreneurs; coordinating schedules, events, guest relations, etc. for this boutique learning hub; large scale event planning and execution; working with students in distress; recruitment and retention of students; coordination of assigned projects, and student organizations, and assisting with Benfica Residential Academy Marmion Hall chaperone duties, and programming; and Competitive Teams.

Job Description

Duties and Tasks:

  • Work directly with the Office of the Vice President (VP) to contribute to, manage, and assist with a wide variety of tasks including event planning and operations; problem solving; working with students and families in distress; role modeling for and coordinating the activities of undergraduate student workers; marketing; technology use; and other duties as assigned.
  • Work directly with the Office of the VP team to assist in creating, implementing, and coordinating a wide range of projects focused on student recruitment and retention (i.e. Made by Us Marketplace; Competitive Teams)
  • Manage the day to day operations of the Made by Us Marketplace including recruiting, hiring, selecting, training, scheduling and supervising student workers, interns, and volunteers; coordinate process of marketing for and selecting student (and faculty/staff/families) artists and entrepreneurs; arranging display of materials including artist bios and payment options; cleaning and maintenance of space; special Marketplace events; arranging Marketplace presence at major university and community events.
  • Assist in the coordination of Benfica Residential Academy Marmion Hall programming, chaperoning students to planned events and planning activities and events for the students.
  • Work directly with the VP and the Spirit Committee in creating and carrying out programs that enhance school spirit; work with and co-supervise a Spirit Team of students who produce events, create excitement, and undertake events prior to and during games and matches to increase attendance and fan participation
  • Build collaborative relationships with others of diverse backgrounds and abilities, work within a team structure, negotiate and manage conflict.
  • Exercise sound reasoning and analytical thinking; use knowledge, facts, and data to solve problems and make decisions.
  • Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and effectively in written and oral forms. Express ideas professionally to others. Use effective communication in marketing, fundraising, and other tasks.
  • Participate in University functions, events, committees, etc. as appropriate.
  • Represent the institution at internal and external events, as appropriate.
  • Assist in day-to-day office operations for the VP and the Division.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Office of the Vice President.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Ability to learn, digest and apply knowledge of FERPA, Title IX, Clery Act, and Campus Save Act (including VAWA – Violence Against Women’s Act)
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the development of creative and innovative programs and services
  • Knowledge and appreciation for diverse populations of students
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Canva.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Catholic Benedictine values and the values of Saint Leo University

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree from regionally accredited institution.

Full time enrollment in a Saint Leo University graduate degree program
