About Tin Can
At Tin Can, we're giving kids the freedom and social independence we had growing up —without smartphones. Our screen-free phone is a remix of the classic landline, built for today's world: private, safe, and fun. Parents get peace of mind, kids get autonomy.
We’ve been featured on the Today Show, trusted by parents across the U.S., and backed by a growing community of believers. Now we’re looking for an Art Director to shape how the world sees and feels Tin Can.
The Role
As the Art Director, you’ll be both the visionary and the doer—balancing high-level brand thinking with hands-on making. You’ll report directly to the Head of Brand Creative and help shape how Tin Can shows up in the world—rolling up your sleeves to design, produce, and bring ideas to life. From packaging and social content to events, influencer campaigns, brand collabs, and maybe even a custom ringtone (yep, really), your work will bring our analog-first spirit to life.
This is a role for someone who loves big ideas and tiny details—a conceptual thinker with design chops who can think strategically, collaborate cross-functionally, and also get in the weeds to make things look, feel, and work just right. You’ll thrive here if you’re energized by new challenges, learn fast, and believe that great design can make people feel connected, curious, and just a little more human. You’re also someone who’s excited to lend a hand to the team, even if it’s not in your job description—you’d be stoked to throw down on copy for a social post, provide feedback on new app features, or brainstorm how to better outfit the kid area in the office.
What You'll Do
Own the creative vision and design direction for Tin Can across all brand touch points.
Concept and execute projects from the big idea down to every pixel and post.
Design across mediums: digital, print, packaging, motion, events, and product.
Develop visual identities and design systems for new initiatives, products, and experiences.
Partner closely with Marketing, Product, and Community teams to ensure consistency and impact across channels.Translate brand strategy into creative campaigns that resonate with parents, kids, and broader communities.
Lead production across mediums, managing timelines, specs, and outside vendors. Anything from small, scrappy photoshoots in our office, to larger brand narrative films. You feel comfortable getting concepts over the finish line from pre to post production.
Bring creative ideas to unexpected spaces—whether that’s a custom ringtone, an event environment, or an interactive moment.
Maintain a high standard of design craft and brand consistency across all touchpoints.
Contribute to creative strategy, visual storytelling, and content development across channels:
Integrated brand campaigns
Social media and influencer marketing campaigns and brand collabs
Printed collateral, digital ads, and retail displays
Event setups and experiential branding
Packaging design and unboxing experiences
Website and app experience
Push the Tin Can brand forward while protecting its nostalgic, playful, and approachable core.
What We're Looking For
5+ years of experience in brand design, art direction, or creative leadership roles.
A portfolio that demonstrates both strategic thinking and executional craft—across digital, physical, and experiential projects.
You’re organized and proactive, able to manage your own time and juggle multiple projects in a fast-moving startup environment—where priorities shift and creative solutions evolve quickly.
You’re an expert at ideation and get excited to problem solve against multiple different solutions and approaches.
Fluency in Adobe Creative Suite, Figma, and/or other design tools.
Strong understanding of brand systems, typography, packaging, and visual storytelling.
You can confidently present work, incorporating feedback while advocating for strong creative solutions.
A builder’s mindset: you can work scrappy, move fast, and scale as we grow.
A love for creating work that’s playful, human, and a little bit nostalgic. Curiosity, humor, and the ability to make things happen even when the brief isn’t fully written.
Bonus points for: skills in photography, motion, animation, or light video editing.
Why Join Tin Can
You’ll be joining a team that’s small, scrappy, and growing fast. Your fingerprints will be all over how the world experiences Tin Can—from the box someone opens, to the booth they wander into, to the campaign that makes them grin.
If you’re excited about designing for a brand with heart, humor, and a twirly cord or two, this might just be your call.
