Job Description

At Uncommon Schools, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping what excellent teaching and learning look like across our network. As the organization’s content expert, you’ll design and refine curriculum and assessments, set ambitious student achievement goals, and bring research-based best practices to life in classrooms. You’ll coach leaders in schools, drive strategic initiatives, and lead professional development that elevates teacher practice and student outcomes. This is a high-impact opportunity to ensure every student has access to rigorous, inclusive, and transformative instruction.

Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Chief Schools Officer, identifies student achievement goals and targets and works relentlessly to achieve them.
  • Drives 5-8th grade math student achievement in all Uncommon regions through effective development, dissemination, and implementation of curriculum and assessments
  • Manages the development, dissemination, and maintenance of network curriculum and assessment materials that improve student outcomes, ensuring materials are research-aligned, error free, diverse, and inclusive
  • Develops the vision for their content and gradespan at Uncommon, including recommending curriculum and assessment revisions, methods of innovation, and plans for professional development and training
  • Develops and facilitates content-based professional development across all levels of the organization
  • Analyzes network assessments in order to recommend, develop, and execute response to data initiatives
  • Spends 2 days a week on the ground coaching and supporting network, regional, and school leaders on content in order to share best practices and develop content expertise
  • Serves as an in-house expert in their content area, utilizing knowledge of research and evidence based best practices to drive Uncommon's content strategy
  • Partners with other Home Office instructional teams, RSIs, and school leaders in developing and executing Uncommon's strategic initiatives
  • Drive implementation of strategic initiatives related to their content, including the development and monitoring of related OKRs and KPIs
  • Collaborates with curriculum and assessment content managers across grade levels, ensuring an aligned vision for K-12 instruction in their content area
  • Progress monitors key initiatives to ensure their success, including adapting plans when necessary in order to meet goals

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree; Master's preferred

Experience Requirements:

  • 7-9 years of experience
    • 7+ years in a leadership capacity
    • 7+ years in an instructional coaching capacity, with exceptional results 
    • 7+ years creating and leading professional development
    • 7+ years of data analysis in an instructional context 
    • 5+ years of experience creating/updating curriculum and assessments with exceptional content expertise

Travel/ Work Arrangement:

  • 3 days a week in person; 2 of which will be in our schools for coaching
  • Monthly travel to our regions

Compensation

The full compensation range for this role is $111,200-$139,000. Starting compensation on the lower end reflects candidates with less relevant experience, while those with significant experience in similar roles will fall on the higher end of the band or potentially above it.

Compensation determinations consider relevant professional experience and tenure with Uncommon Schools. Additionally, because we value internal growth and tenure, current staff members are not subject to salary caps within this range.
