About the Department

Founded in 1943, University of Chicago Presents (UCP) is the University of Chicago’s professional concert series, dedicated to presenting world-class artists in concerts and educational programs. Each season, UCP presents multiple series, including the Classic Concert Series, the Howard Mayer Brown International Early Music Series, Jazz at the Logan, Blues@Logan, Music Without Borders, Artist-in-Residence events, and concerts in partnership with the Chicago Center for Contemporary Composition. Performances take place in Mandel Hall, the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts, International House, Bond Chapel, and Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. UCP produces 25–30 concerts and events per season and is managed by a team of five staff members and student employees.


Job Information

Job Summary:

The primary role of the Production and Operations Assistant is to ensure all elements related to the concert are in place for a successful performance. Some planning and coordination tasks with your supervisor may be completed remotely leading up to event days. The position reports to Jessica Wolfe, Director of Production and Education of UChicago Presents. This on-site position is based at the University of Chicago, with a start date in September. The role offers an anticipated schedule of 8-12 hours per week, concentrated primarily on concert or event days. Please note that the number of hours worked each week will fluctuate in accordance with UCP's event calendar, which is not consistent from week to week. As such, there will be periods of high activity as well as stretches with little or no scheduled work, for example between Thanksgiving and New Year.

This is a temporary, part-time position, offering $22 per hour and is not benefits eligible. Applicants must submit a resume AND cover letter to be considered.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate logistics for upcoming concerts, such as confirming event schedules, liaising with artists or their management, and communicating with vendors or other stakeholders as needed.
  • Arrive at the venue ahead of artists and vendors to ensure that the hall is prepared, such as lights are on, stage is set/clear, piano is out, etc.
  • Serve as on-site contact for vendors, receiving backline and confirming against technical riders and stage plots.
  • Greet the artists at the venue, show them to green room, attend to their needs (coffee/tea, music stands, preferred piano bench, etc.), and introduce them to venue manager/crew.
  • Act as a liaison between artists, the venue manager, and production team to ensure stage, lighting, and logistical requirements are met.
  • Organize and oversee green room setup and cleanup; arrange refreshments or meals for artists as needed.
  • Work with UCP staff as needed on set up and break down.
  • Troubleshoot any production needs or last-minute changes as they arise during events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor related to production, logistics, or artist hospitality.
