Remote Sr. DevOps System Engineer - Master's Degree Required

Trilogy Federal drives innovative solutions for complex business challenges across financial management, healthcare, and government industries. Our collaborative, client-first service approach, combined with our commitment to the rapid implementation of pragmatic solutions, has earned Trilogy an unparalleled reputation for delivering transformative results.

Trilogy Federal is seeking a remote Senior DevOps System Engineer to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veteran Canteen Service Automated Information System (VCS AIS). The ideal candidate will be a versatile technical expert with a focus on system reliability through DevOps engineering that fulfills technical, operational, and business requirements while excelling in a fast-paced, client-oriented environment. This position will provide continued technical support for six active, highly visual security remediation projects, break/fix, data mining, and analytics to support VCS AIS. This role requires a collaborative, detail-oriented professional to join our team, implementing secure, scalable cloud-based solutions and DevOps processes to modernize VA corporate IT systems, including legacy applications and DevSecOps initiatives.

This position will ensure the integration of robust security practices within DevOps workflows, aligning with VA’s Veteran-focused Integration Process (VIP) Lean-Agile framework and stringent federal security standards. This position may require occasional customer site visits in Washington, D.C.

Primary Responsibilities:
  • Design, implement, and maintain Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps, ensuring secure and efficient delivery of VA corporate IT applications.
  • Engineer cloud infrastructure on AWS or Azure platforms, optimizing for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency while embedding security controls (e.g., encryption, IAM policies) to meet VA requirements.
  • Conduct security assessments, vulnerability scans, and risk mitigation activities, ensuring compliance with VA security standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST 800-53, FIPS 140-2) across development and deployment processes.
  • Collaborate with Scrum Masters, Cloud Engineers, and Release Managers to integrate security practices into Agile sprints and release cycles, supporting legacy system sustainment and DevSecOps modernization.
  • Harden cloud environments and CI/CD pipelines against threats, implementing monitoring tools (e.g., AWS CloudWatch, Azure Monitor) and security best practices to protect VA systems and data.
  • Support the migration of VA applications to cloud platforms, ensuring secure architecture design, seamless transitions, and post-migration stability.
  • Utilize VA-approved tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow) to document DevOps workflows, security configurations, and contribute to Biweekly Status Reports on pipeline status and security posture.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve DevOps and security-related issues, minimizing downtime and ensuring high availability for VA corporate services and end-users.
  • Integrate emerging technologies, such as containerization (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) or Artificial Intelligence (AI), into DevOps processes, aligning with VA OIT’s modernization goals.
  • Work with VA stakeholders, including the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR) and Information Security Officer (ISO), to address security requirements and deliver exceptional customer outcomes.
  • Provide technical expertise and mentorship to team members on DevOps tools, cloud security practices, and federal compliance, contributing to Trilogy’s staff development initiatives.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (e.g., sprint planning, retrospectives) to align DevOps and security efforts with team deliverables and the VIP Lean-Agile framework.

Minimum Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in DevOps engineering, cloud infrastructure, or cybersecurity, with a focus on federal or VA IT environments.
  • Proven expertise in CI/CD pipeline development, cloud platforms (AWS or Azure), and security implementation, with hands-on experience using tools like Terraform, Jenkins, and security scanners (e.g., Nessus, Qualys).
  • Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to balance DevOps efficiency with robust security in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
  • Familiarity with VA security standards (e.g., FISMA, NIST, HIPAA) and the VIP Lean-Agile framework is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, SharePoint) and VA-approved tools (e.g., Jira, GitHub, ServiceNow).
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technical and security requirements and travel occasionally to VA sites in Washington, D.C., as needed.
  • The ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
