Job Description

The Building Inspector will enjoy the challenge of working on multiple projects ranging from single-family homes to multi-family complexes. Our Quality Assurance inspectors ensure building codes, manufacturer installations, industry standards, etc. are being strictly adhered to. This position is field-based and will feel quite independent as our inspectors are usually on project sites most days and often working alone. The Quality Assurance team is part of the Project Advisory vertical at Vertex, which provides a variety of consulting and risk management services to a diverse and ever-expanding client base, working collaboratively with our clients for a safer and better built environment.

  • Perform\ daily field inspections for the following site visits for residential new construction: Foundations, Exterior and Interior MEPS, Exterior Envelope, Drywall, Interior and Exterior Final Assemblies.
  • Interact with the public and explain technical information to both technically and non-technically trained individuals.
  • Direct interaction with client representatives and fellow team members.
  • Review architectural plans for building components to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
  • Maintain accurate records of documented inspections, test results, and additional details pertaining to inspections.
  • Ensure that assignments are executed with technical proficiency, integrity, and professionalism.
  • Maintain computer logs of inspection reports, entering inspection results into permitting software.
  • Make employee safety a priority both in-house and on-site, in accordance with corporate policy.
  • Effectively coordinate with other team members as requested or assigned, able to provide guidance and monitor progress on assigned tasks or projects, and ensure work product produced by self or other assigned team members is consistently high quality
  • Meet or exceed defined individual average utilization goals as set forth by company leadership
  • Coordinate and support other team members as assigned in a “lead by example” manner, with emphasis on positivity and a culture that is empowered to execute
  • Ensure compliance of operations with all local, state and Federal (and International, if applicable) regulations, as well as compliance with company policy

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of local building codes and current construction procedures/technology.
  • 3+ yrs. experience with Interpretation of codes in the field providing code compliant solutions.
  • Candidate must stay familiar and up to date with different editions and updates of the CA International Building Codes.
  • Must possess the ability to positively interact with the other staff members, the public, contractors, governmental entities, and other clientele.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good time management, organization, and attention to detail skills. · Demonstrated ability to exercise initiative and a considerable amount of independent judgment.
  • Candidate must be able to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced atmosphere.
  • Travel and/or field work (valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle required).
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office.

Additional Discipline Qualifications & Competencies

  • ICC Residential Inspector Certifications required (Certification can be obtained while employed at Vertex).
  • OSHA-10 or OSHA-30 certification preferred.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or related field desired, but not required

Physical Requirements

  • Walk job sites during inspections, sometimes on uneven terrain.
  • Climb scaffold.
  • Carry construction tools and equipment (up to 30 pounds) onto job sites with regularity

Additional Information

The salary range for this role is $85,000 to $95,000 per year.
