Job Description

Join UChicago Medicine, as a Registered Nurse in the EP Procedures Department. 

 

Under the direction of an Attending Physician or a licensed independent practitioner, the Registered Nurse in EP Procedures provides technically complex and high risk nursing care services to patients which may include one or more of the following categories: sedation, intravenous infusions and complex procedures.

 

In this role, the Registered Nurse in EP will assist in pre and post patient assessment and patient care, patient and family teaching, preparing, circulating and hemodynamic monitoring during the invasive procedures. This individual is able to demonstrate clinical expertise in working with electrophysiology patients during invasive diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology and device implantation procedures.

  • Handles confidential information consistent with Federal HIPAA legislation.
  • Performs a variety of clinical and research procedures with efficiency and high standards of quality; assures that the proper protocol is used for each sedation.
  • Provides patient care in a compassionate and empathetic manner; demonstrates knowledge of agespecific considerations in the provision of care. Involves a multidisciplinary team as needed to support patient and family psychological, social and spiritual needs.
  • Accurately completes required patient assessment, documentation, and interpretations for each patient encounter. Possesses sound professional judgment for timely physician intervention as needed. Recognizes patient conditions requiring immediate actions, initiates appropriate life supporting interventions while communicating appropriately with physicians.
  • Maintains nursing equipment and work areas in proper working condition; reports malfunctioning equipment or housekeeping issues to the appropriate person. Maintains a neat and clean work area with equipment. Maintains adequate inventory control of all necessary supplies. Emergency equipment maintained with adequate availability, good working order and restocks as needed with a fiscal awareness and accountability.
  • Interfaces with customers, specifically patients, families, visitors, and UCMC staff in a professional, positive and accommodating manner; demonstrates knowledge of AIDET principles and employs in all situations; demonstrates flexibility in accommodating special needs of customers whenever possible.
  • Performs all required Quality Assurance testing as indicated or as required by UCMC Rotates to clinical areas as directed to assist in safe staffing ratios; utilizes resources to safely transport sedated patients to an appropriate or designated area within the UCMC.
  • The RN is expert in assessing and treating and evaluating patient conditions specific to their work area, e.g., anxiety, pain, claustrophobia and underlying disease conditions. Due to the complex nature of pain, RN will evaluate and treat pain in a prompt, caring fashion and reassess after each intervention, charting per UCMC protocol.
  • RN uses nursing knowledge to anticipate and plan for patient care needs. The RN understands and applies safety principles and serves as a resource to other healthcare personnel on patient care. RN knows the potential risks and complications from specialty procedures and can assist in the initial treatment of adverse effects in their area of expertise.

 

Required Qualifications

  • RN Required
  • Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN degree or higher preferred.
    • Associate Degree Nurses are required to enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire, and make progress toward and complete their BSN degree within 30 months. ADN nurses receive 100% tuition reimbursement towards a BSN degree from an accredited program.
  • Minimum experience to 2 years ICU or ED experience mandatory.
  • Currently licensed as a registered professional nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • Current CPR, ACLS, and/or PALS Certifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • One additional certification in area specialty.

Compensation & Benefits Overview

 

UChicago Medicine is committed to transparency in compensation and benefits.  The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position.

 

The pay range is based on a full-time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity. Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
