The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is building the future of sustainable timber - from next-generation sawmill technology to digital marketplaces that connect the entire supply chain. We're designing state-of-the-art, modular sawmills while creating tools that help landowners maximize value, service providers find opportunities, and mills secure consistent supplies. Backed by leading investors, including Cantos, Slow Ventures, Susa Ventures, Banter, Humba Ventures, and Ravelin Capital.
The Lumber Manufactory (TLM) is seeking a strategic and analytical Head of FP&A to lead financial planning, forecasting, and performance analysis across our operations. This role will partner closely with senior leadership to drive data-informed decision-making, optimize financial outcomes, and support long-term growth initiatives. The Head of FP&A will oversee budgeting processes, financial modeling, and reporting, ensuring alignment with company goals and industry best practices. This position plays a key role in shaping TLM’s financial strategy and operational success.
We are looking for someone who can roll up their sleeves, make sense of messy data, and turn insights into decisions that shape the trajectory of the business.
This position reports to the CFO.
Key Responsibilities:
Be the Finance Engine
Lead the development and execution of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting processes across the organization.
Build and maintain dynamic financial models that clearly communicate historical performance, future projections, and strategic pathways.
Ensure timely and accurate reporting to internal stakeholders and external partners.
Collaborate effectively across the organization with peers, stakeholders, and business partners.
Drive Growth Decisions
Serve as a strategic partner to the CEO, CFO, and senior leadership team on high-impact initiatives, including facility expansion, product line development, and capital strategy.
Provide financial insights and scenario analyses to support investment decisions and long-term planning.
Evaluate ROI and payback periods for major projects and initiatives.
Turn Data into Strategy
Monitor and analyze key operating metrics — including log supply, mill efficiency, production throughput, and customer economics.
Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights that inform operational and strategic decisions.
Build from Scratch
Design and implement scalable systems, processes, and tools for financial planning and analysis.
Establish best practices for data integrity, reporting automation, and cross-functional collaboration.
Own the architecture of FP&A infrastructure, including dashboards, templates, and workflows.
Qualifications:
8+ years of finance experience, ideally with at least 3 years leading FP&A in a scaling company.
Experience in manufacturing, supply chain, or industrials is a big plus — but not required if you’ve got a builder’s mindset.
A master of financial modeling, but just as comfortable zooming out to the big picture.
Scrappy, resourceful, and not afraid to get your hands dirty. You’ll set strategy one hour and troubleshoot spreadsheets the next.
Strong communicator — able to simplify the complex and influence at every level.
Bachelor’s in Finance, Economics, or related field (MBA/CFA nice to have, but not required).
The starting base salary for this position is $185,000 annually
We offer competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits:
100% employer-paid health coverage for employees and dependents (medical, dental, vision)
Life insurance and disability coverage (100% employer-paid)
Flexible time off with unlimited PTO plus 9 company holidays
Opportunity to shape the future of an essential industry
Join our team as we modernize timber from forest to finished product.
