Sr. Planner - job 1 of 3

The City of Fort Worth Environmental Services Department seeks a Senior Planner to support strategic planning, outreach, research, GIS/mapping, and management of the Keep Fort Worth Beautiful program. The role leads long-range planning initiatives, conducts spatial and statistical analysis, develops program documentation and ordinances, and collaborates with internal teams, external stakeholders, and the public to advance environmental and sustainability goals.

Skills

  • Proficiency with GIS and spatial analysis tools to produce maps and datasets
  • Strong data analysis and reporting skills to inform planning decisions
  • Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate strategic plans and programs
  • Excellent technical writing, document layout, and graphic design abilities
  • Experience with public engagement, community outreach, and stakeholder relations
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and document layout software (e.g., Adobe InDesign)

Responsibilities

  • Complete mapping requests and spatial analyses to support departmental needs
  • Lead long-range planning initiatives and department-wide programs (e.g., Green Schools, Composting, Green Businesses)
  • Coordinate complex program activities with other divisions, agencies, and external organizations
  • Gather, analyze, and report data to identify trends and inform recommendations and strategies
  • Support special studies, program evaluation, and compile statistical data
  • Develop and review city ordinances and environmental planning documentation
  • Perform technical writing, project evaluation/implementation, and data management
  • Continuously monitor and improve program quality, responsiveness, efficiency, and effectiveness
  • Provide educational outreach and public engagement related to environmental and sustainability efforts

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Planning/Design, GIS, Architecture, Geography, Landscape Architecture, Historic Preservation, Archaeology, Architectural History, Real Estate Development, or related field (required)
  • Candidates without the stated degree may be considered with equivalent and additional relevant work experience
