Skills
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Field inspection and materials testing (concrete, asphalt, utilities)
- Prepare clear written daily reports and pay estimates
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe Acrobat (MS Access a plus)
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Responsibilities
- Inspect construction work and materials for compliance with plans, specifications, codes, and ordinances
- Preview project plans and specifications prior to inspections
- Prepare daily construction progress reports and progress pay estimates
- Observe work in progress and upon completion; ensure safety procedures are followed
- Coordinate change orders and advise contractors of plan/spec changes with supervisor support
- Coordinate inspection activities with other city departments and utilities
- Perform preliminary and final inspections on routine construction projects
- Act as liaison between contractors and the public regarding construction impacts
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Candidates lacking formal education may be considered with commensurate relevant experience
