WHAT YOU’LL DO
As the Manager, Development, you will be responsible for providing support as an essential part of a local fundraising team cultivating, stewarding, and managing a portfolio of donors in New York who share our commitment to ensuring all children have access to an excellent and equitable education and other fundraisers to provide support in communications and essential operations such as research, drafting communications, supporting local fundraising engagements, etc. You will partner deeply with the New York Executive Director and other New York-focused fundraisers to maximize giving from your local community in service of Teach For America’s mission and impact. You will also leverage your skills and abilities to proactively problem solve and navigate complexity as you support a local plan and strategy for new donor acquisition.
Reporting to the SMD, Development, you will be charged with supporting local fundraising efforts from a portfolio of donors across the local fundraising landscapes. You will work directly with other fundraisers in the local market to support communication, engagement, systems, and operations in order to cultivate and steward the local portfolio of donors, and ensure Prospect & Donor Managers (PDMs) are well-positioned to engage with donors across fundraising streams and at all stages of the donor life cycle. We are looking for a true team player who can make a significant contribution across a full local portfolio, and is open to contributing as needed to fundraising efforts in support of other Teach For America regions. In partnership with local fundraisers, the Executive Director and the VP, Field Fundraising, you will support the development and execution of the strategy to acquire, cultivate, retain, and diversify a portfolio of private donors.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
45% - Support the management, cultivation, and stewardship for a portfolio of donors, primarily individual donors, ensuring that all team members are well equipped to engage at all stages of the donor life cycle.
30% - Data & Systems Management
Consistently maintain donor, prospect, and fundraising activity information in our CRM (currently Salesforce) and leverage this information in tracking progress, monitoring gaps, and adjusting strategy and approach.
Manage data tracking, gift processing, and donor stewardship systems, including a thank you tracker to ensure timely acknowledgment of contributions and an overall seamless experience for donors.
20% - Provide critical capacity to team-specific initiatives, i.e. campaigns, events, etc. Work in close partnership with the SMD and other local fundraisers to ensure regular touchpoints with donors and partners, aligned to an annual stewardship calendar.
5% - Steward broader development team and organizational initiatives
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Your areas of knowledge and expertise that matter most for this role (minimum qualifications):
Relationship Building
Desire and excitement to support primary relationship holders/solicitors through execution on comprehensive relationship management and communication plans
Strong written and verbal communication skills with a variety of internal and external constituents
Ability to manage up and laterally to influence development teammates in service of donor stewardship
Strong team orientation and ability to build relationships within and across teams
Fundraising and Development
Familiarity with best practices in development and fundraising, particularly in communication
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in supporting portfolio management across a team
Execute on specific fundraising and relationship management initiatives (i.e. campaigns)
Portfolio Management
Support team members in producing high-quality deliverables aligned to current and prospective donor portfolio
Ability to effectively prioritize tasks across multiple team members and/or constituents and make timely decisions
Monitor progress against the portfolio to ensure continuous donor stewardship
Prior experience
Required: At least 2+ years of related experience in a development and fundraising context
Required: Track record of meeting and exceeding ambitious goals, especially as part of a team supporting the management of a portfolio of donors
Required: Bachelor’s degree
Preferred: Teach For America development experience
Work Demands
Occasional weekend or evening work hours required.
Some travel to engage with local donors may be required

YOUR COMPENSATION
The applicable salary range for each U.S.-based role is based on where the employee works and is aligned to one of 3 tiers according to a cost of labor index in that geographic area. Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include education, training, experience, location, business needs, or market demands. New hires are typically brought into the organization at a salary between the range minimum and the salary range midpoint depending on qualifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role. The expected salary range for this role are set forth below. These ranges may be modified in the future.
Salary Grade Tier C: $76,700 - $98,800
