WHAT YOU’LL DO
Content Specialists are responsible for preparing and facilitating in-person professional development sessions on the Science of Reading or STEM with groups of up to 25 first —and second-year corps members and providing follow-up support. They will receive session guidance and templates, engage in 2-6 hours of training, design and facilitate three ~1.5-hour sessions, and participate in 30- 60-minute debriefs.
Content sessions will happen three times over the 25-26 school year: October 30, mid-January, and April 14. Sessions will be in the evening, since Corps Members are teaching during the day. Each session will include exploration of 1 or 2 important concepts within the Science of Reading or STEM, then guided application of those concepts using high-quality curricular resources.
WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
Attend 1-2 hours of training and rehearsal before each session
Fall training will be on October 8th from 5:30-7:00 pm ET
Design 3 professional development sessions focused on grade-band specific Science of Reading or STEM content in alignment with TFA Philadelphia staff guidance.
Submit professional development session materials to TFA Philadelphia staff at least 2 weeks prior to session dates and incorporate TFA staff feedback into final sessions as requested
Facilitate the in-person Science of Reading or STEM content sessions (90 minutes) as part of larger TFA Philadelphia corps events (full time of events listed below)

Spend 30-60 minutes to debrief each Professional Development session
Provide light follow-up support to Corps Members after/between sessions (e.g., answer questions over email, send follow-up emails with resources discussed in session)
YOUR EXPERIENCE
Deep content knowledge and training in the Science of Reading (e.g., AIM Pathways, LETRS, Orton-Gillingham, Standards Institute) or STEM (e.g., OGAP, SDP Math Institute, Standards Institute)
At least 3 years of K-12 teaching experience with demonstrated student success
Strong facilitation with adults
A core belief that people can learn, grow, and change
A commitment to ongoing learning and receptiveness to feedback
Demonstrated success working across lines of difference
Familiarity with one or more commonly used high-quality curricular resources, such as:
EL/Imagine Learning, Amplify Core Knowledge, Wilson Fundations, Heggerty
Eureka Math, Illustrative Mathematics

COMPENSATION
The Content Specialist role is compensated $41.11 per hour throughout the commitment. We anticipate 20-30 total hours over the course of the 2025-26 school year. Compensation for Teach for America positions is determined based on role responsibilities.
