The Director, under general supervision, is responsible for leading outreach and community engagement activities for Rural Medicine.

Travel: This position requires significant travel to rural areas and will require evenings and weekend work.
Qualifications
Required Education
Bachelor’s degree or combination of education and experience.
Ten years of related experience in management, business development or related areas
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree
15 years of experience in management and/or business development
Experience with community coalitions or outreach activities.
Experience in or around rural areas, with a demonstrated understanding of the community and business environment.
Strong knowledge of business or program development
Skilled public speaker
Budget creation and management
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to enable clear and effective vision.
Ability to build strong interpersonal relationships and create coalitions, particularly with volunteer leaders.
Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications
Knowledge of rural communities
Ability to travel
Responsibilities
Rural Site Development and Outreach
• Provides leadership for departmental functions to include planning, directing, and evaluating departmental operations.
• Establishes the direction, goals, and implementation strategies for rural medicine community outreach and development.
• Develops strategies and tactics to implement the Rural Medicine Initiative.
• Expands the rural rotations and elective program for medical students targeting key regions.
• Recruits Stakeholder Teams to include County Officials, ISD personnel, and Medical Providers.
• Coordinates and develops marketing and communications pieces to communicate the mission and goals of rural medicine.
Partnership and Funding
• In collaboration with the Texas A&M Foundation staff, develops and seeks funding for rural medicine programs for long-term funding strategies.
• Coordinates with local donors to ensure adequate funding in each rural location.
• Develops and maintains strong partnerships with local communities.
• Identifies conferences and outreach opportunities and represents A&M Medicine as appropriate.
• Builds relationships with Texas A&M University System members, including Texas A&M AgriLife and Texas A&M Health, to maximize program impact.
Administration
• Provides information and reporting to management.
• Develops and administers rural community budget.
• Provides effective budget management and oversees fiscal operations of departments by establishing cost controls.
• Ensures that programs and activities comply with University, State, and Federal regulations
• Serves on various University, division, and departmental committees and represents rural medicine at various State and National associations.
• Directs the administration of University-wide programs and initiatives.
