We enable any scientist to access AI-powered drug discovery. Thousands of scientists from large pharma companies, top biotechs, and academic institutions use Tamarind to design protein drugs, improve industrial enzymes, and create cutting edge molecules that weren’t feasible until now.
New AI models are quickly eclipsing physics-based tools in computational drug discovery. Scientists often struggle to fine-tune, deploy, and scale these models, leaving breakthroughs on the table. Tamarind provides a simple interface to the vast array of tools being released daily.
We’re hiring a Frontend / UX Engineer to design and build intuitive interfaces that make advanced computational biology tools accessible to scientists worldwide. You’ll collaborate with founders, engineers, and researchers to transform complex data and workflows into seamless, visually engaging experiences.
This role combines design sensitivity with strong technical execution. You’ll take ownership of the end-user experience—from prototypes to production—and help define how scientists interact with AI and molecular data in real time.
You should thrive in a fast-paced, product-focused environment, be comfortable owning large surface areas, and have a keen eye for detail and user empathy.
Techstack:
Python, React, AWS (EC2, S3, DynamoDB), Docker, CUDA, Conda, TensorFlow/PyTorch; notebooks; bash/Slurm; APIs & web apps.
Build and ship polished, performant interfaces
Translate scientific workflows into intuitive product experiences.
Develop and maintain scalable component libraries and design systems.
Partner with backend engineers to integrate APIs and real-time data visualization.
Collaborate directly with founders on UX direction and feature prioritization.
Contribute to the product roadmap by identifying and advocating for UX improvements.
Prototype and iterate on new user flows with input from scientists and founders.
Ship a new dashboard or visualization from design concept to production.
Conduct a quick usability test and refine UI elements based on feedback.
Collaborate with engineers to streamline performance or improve rendering.
Present new UX patterns or micro-interactions during design review.
Onsite expectation: Team currently onsite in SF ~6 days/week and often works late (startup pace). This may evolve as the team grows.
3+ years of experience in frontend engineering with React, Next.js, and TypeScript.
Strong understanding of user experience design principles and responsive layouts.
Experience designing, building, and maintaining component libraries or design systems.
Comfort collaborating cross-functionally with design, product, and engineering.
Familiarity with data visualization frameworks
Located in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.
Experience visualizing scientific or ML datasets.
Exposure to MLOps or scientific computing environments.
Understanding of backend integration (Python APIs, AWS).
Prior experience building UI for technical or developer-facing products.
Our technology sits at the intersection of DevOps, MLOps, and Computational Biology. We deal with problems ranging from scaling ML inference on AWS for hundreds of GPUs to dissecting pdb files with Biopython. We deploy a wide range of open source ML models for customers, navigating between Docker containers, Colab notebooks, bash scripts, slurm jobs, and more.
We keep our process focused, transparent, and designed to give both sides a clear sense of fit.
