Skills
- Hands-on fabrication, manufacturing, or testing experience with welded assemblies
- Practical knowledge of multiple welding processes (electron beam, laser, GTAW, GMAW, resistance, orbital, friction stir)
- Experience interpreting mechanical testing and NDE data
- Familiarity with weld qualification standards and methods (ASTM, AWS, ISO)
- Robot programming and automated welding setup experience
- Metallography and fractography for root cause analysis
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and communicate across teams
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and qualify welding processes and parameters across electron beam, laser, GTAW, GMAW, resistance, orbital, friction-stir, and plasma arc welding
- Support production of full-scale welded assemblies and provide direction to manufacturing engineers and welders
- Perform root cause analysis and corrective actions in collaboration with design and materials engineering
- Collaborate with tooling, automation, and development teams to improve weld designs for manufacturability
- Plan and execute welding qualification test campaigns and interpret mechanical testing and NDE results
- Work with NDE personnel to interpret weld quality and develop advanced inspection techniques
- Implement process control improvements and automated welding solutions to increase consistency and throughput
- Evaluate and scope new welding technologies to improve rate, quality, and efficiency
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline (required)
- Master’s degree in welding engineering or related technical program (preferred)
