About the job

The SAS Decisioning Runtime R&D team is looking for a Senior Software Developer specializing in C to join our team of talented engineers.  You will work collaboratively with your development peers and other stakeholders to craft world-class cutting-edge products and solutions that enable SAS customers to deploy analytics and make decisions in a high-performing, lean, and scalable manner.  You will contribute to products spanning a diverse set of technologies and industries targeted at both cloud and on-premise deployments.

As a Senior Software Developer specializing in C, you will:

• Design and develop high quality, testable, and scalable computational algorithms based in C
• Research and implement key initiatives independently when appropriate with added ability to provide guidance to the larger team
• Actively involve other project stakeholders (e.g., managers, developers, product managers) to ensure implementation satisfies both functional and non-functional requirements and is consistent with established R&D standards
• Participate in project scoping and scheduling; track progress of individual tasks and alerts stakeholders of issues blocking or preventing completion of task
• Guide and support the activities of junior developers through mentorship and pair programming.
• Ensure the caliber of the code you create thorough a quality focused mindset, including code reviews to safeguard integrity and cross-product consistency, developing automated tests at the appropriate level (functional, unit, integration, system, and performance), and collaborating closely with quality engineers to define and review test plans as well as communicate when updates to the plan should be made to cover code changes related to enhancements, redesigns, and bug fixes
• Analyze and optimize product performance
• In collaboration with technical writers, author appropriate level of design and technical documentation that satisfies both internal and external consumers.
• Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization’s secure software development goals.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum eight (8) years of experience in advanced C programming.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related quantitative field
• Experience in analysis, design, and implementation of high performance, multi-threaded, event-driven computing systems
• Experience with performance analysis, bottleneck isolation and elimination
• Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage time across multiple projects; proven track record of delivering complex projects on schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working experience with source control management techniques (Git) including branching, code review, and merging
• Working knowledge of one or more of: DS2, SAS Language, Python, R, JNI, ODBC
• Nice to have: Working knowledge of Rust
