Software Engineer II

About the role:

As a Software Engineer on the Device Services team, you will build frameworks and platforms that support our product teams. This team is responsible for developing and maintaining a platform to enable critical customer experiences across the device lifecycle for our complete device portfolio. Our devices are the core of our product, and we strive to provide customers a world-class device management experience.

We use Golang for our backend, Typescript and React for our web client, and GraphQL to fetch data from our backend. Direct experience with these technologies is not required.

This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US.

In this role, you will: 

• Work with product managers, designers, firmware and infra engineers to architect, build, test and deliver full stack features
• Develop skills and knowledge across multiple technologies - Go, Python, GraphQL, Typescript, JavaScript, React and ReactNative are some of the components of our technology stack. Direct experience with these technologies is not required
• Maintaining the production systems that your team owns and provide operational support 
• Create frameworks that enable our product teams to build solutions for our end customers
• Grow as an engineer - Samsara devs are constantly learning. We’re an engineering-first organization with ample room for progression

Minimum requirements for the role:

• 2+ years of professional experience building customer-facing applications
• Strong programming/coding fundamentals in a language such as Java, Python, or Golang
• Experience designing and architecting large, high-scale systems
• A focus on and desire to mentor fellow engineers
• An ability to estimate, communicate, and deliver upon project milestones with your team

An ideal candidate also has:

• Experience with a public cloud such as AWS
• Familiarity with multiple tiers, such as React Frontends and Microservices
• Contributed heavily to driving significant value to their customers
• Curiosity about our customers, and is eager to improve their day-to-day experience
• Seeks to iterate on new products based on customer feedback
• Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science or related discipline
