Staff Mechanical Design Engineer
Skills
- Proficient in mechanical design tools, especially SolidWorks.
- Strong knowledge of heat transfer, fluid dynamics, solid mechanics, and structural analysis.
- Experience with manufacturing processes and GD&T tolerance analyses.
- Ability to make sound design tradeoffs and navigate ambiguity.
- Effective collaboration and communication skills.
Responsibilities
- Drive design for cost-efficiency, manufacturability, and constructability of thermal batteries.
- Lead detailed engineering analyses and technical design reviews to ensure quality and performance.
- Apply heat transfer and thermal system principles to optimize performance and efficiency.
- Perform tolerance stack-ups and FMEAs to guarantee manufacturability and robustness.
- Develop and review CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Support and enhance internal product development processes with rigorous documentation.
- Review and approve designs, drawings, and specifications for high-quality standards.
- Collaborate with a diverse, iterative design team fostering open communication.
- Visit suppliers and production sites to understand manufacturing and integration needs.
- Support reliability testing and define testing protocols with partners.
- Communicate design status and direction to leadership via presentations.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their technical growth.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent practical experience.
