Staff RF Development Engineer

Relativity Space is building the Terran R launch vehicle and advancing rocket manufacturing and autonomy. The Avionics team is responsible for vehicle and ground electrical systems; they seek a Staff RF Development Engineer to lead RF and telemetry architecture, design, integration, testing, and regulatory support across vehicle and ground systems.

Skills

  • Antenna design and modeling (e.g., HFSS)
  • Link budget development and analysis
  • Design/selection of RF passive components (couplers, filters)
  • Integration of RF systems (transmitters, receivers, PAs, LNAs)
  • Experience with RF test equipment (spectrum analyzers, SDRs, recorders)
  • Regulatory and licensing experience (FCC, ITU, USSF)
  • Ability to communicate technical topics across disciplines

Responsibilities

  • Drive development of flight and ground RF & telemetry systems through design, integration, test, and launch
  • Create and validate link budgets for vehicle RF systems
  • Model antenna radiation patterns and simulate vehicle-level antenna performance
  • Architect S- and L-band vehicle and ground RF systems
  • Select COTS components or design custom antennas, passives, PAs, LNAs, transmitters/receivers, and GSE
  • Integrate RF hardware with avionics, propulsion, GNC, and stage systems
  • Develop and execute RF test plans using spectrum analyzers, SDRs, and data recorders
  • Support regulatory and licensing activities with FCC, ITU, USSF, and other bodies
  • Document designs, test results, and provide technical guidance across multidisciplinary teams

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (required)
  • Advanced degree in relevant discipline (preferred but not required)
