Senior Manufacturing Engineer, CNC Machining - job 1 of 2

Relativity Space is designing and building Terran R to meet growing launch demand, combining rapid iteration, advanced manufacturing, and cross-disciplinary collaboration. We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Machining) to own operations on large mills and a vertical turning lathe, drive new product introductions, standardize machining processes, and support shop-floor issue resolution to scale production.

Skills

  • Proven CNC milling and turning experience across multiple materials
  • 3D & 2D design/drafting per ASME Y14.5 (NX preferred)
  • Understanding of machine programming (G-code) and machine setup
  • Engineering fundamentals: statics, mechanics of materials, fastening/joining, machining
  • Process improvement and factory design experience
  • Experience delivering complex hardware in high-pressure environments
  • Strong interpersonal and cross-functional communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day operations on two large 3-axis mills (20'x8') and a 20' diameter VTL.
  • Introduce new products and improve high-volume work on 3-axis mills and turning centers.
  • Collaborate with design, manufacturing, reliability, production teams, and vendors to solve production challenges.
  • Create work instructions, specifications, and best practices; standardize processes across the manufacturing team.
  • Champion tooling, fixturing, and process definitions to establish new machining work centers.
  • Provide live shop-floor support and upstream feedback to enable continuous improvement and rapid iteration.
  • Provide Design for Manufacturing (DFM) feedback during development, prototype, and flight builds.

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, aeronautical, mechanical engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of progressive, relevant manufacturing/CNC engineering experience
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.5 (GD&T) standards
