HR wants relocation approval… but I’m already moving 😬

tell them MA is temporary, Philly is your long-term home base so they know you’re not planning to hop states every 3 months
careful tho! some companies quietly reclassify you or cut pay depending on location
HR loves “life change” language, hates “I’m sick of this state” energy
Keep it about logistics they’ll understand: Cost of living, being closer to support network, personal growth, etc.
even remote jobs sometimes have state tax / legal stuff they gotta care about
LMAO not the HR acting like you’re moving to Mars
just say you’re moving for family reasons. its the universal relocation excuse

So apparently I need permission from work to move out of state. Lease is up Oct 31 and I’m temporarily going to Massachusetts before settling permanently in Philly.
I love my job, and I really don’t wanna lose it. I just didn’t think they’d care, esp since we’re remote. But now I’ve got a meeting with HR and I need to explain myself.
Any tips on how to frame it? I don’t want to just say “I’m trying to get out of NC” even tho… that’s kinda it.
