About the Role
OpenAI is looking for a Human Fit & Ergonomics Specialist to capture, model, and analyze human variation. You’ll use 3D scanning, geometry tools, and ergonomic methods to transform complex data into insights that guide product design. This role is hands-on, rigorous, and creative—ranging from building anthropometry libraries to collaborating with designers, engineers, and vendors on practical solutions.

This role is based in San Francisco, CA, and requires being onsite 4 days a week in the office.

In this role, you will:

• Scan, landmark, align, and generate 3D geometry of human forms

• Analyze fit and comfort, combining quantitative metrics with qualitative feedback

• Determine which shapes and forms work across diverse populations

• Build and maintain a library of anthropometry and ergonomic profiles

• Translate ambiguous requests into actionable insights and prototypes

• Communicate insights through visuals, reports, and storytelling

• Partner with designers, engineers, and vendors to refine ideas

• Collaborate closely with the Experience Development team

You might thrive in this role if you:

• Have a strong background in biomechanics, ergonomics, human factors, or a related field

• Bring experience with 3D scanning, printing, and geometry tools (CAD software, MeshLab, MATLAB, R, Python, etc.)

• Are comfortable blending qualitative human feedback with quantitative data

• Can communicate effectively with both designers and engineers

• Are responsive to aesthetic considerations and design thinking

• Value healthy, constructive feedback practices

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience with ergonomic standards and evaluation frameworks

• Prior work on consumer products where human fit and comfort were critical
