The Emissions Inventory Section collects criteria air pollutant and hazardous air pollutant emissions inventories from over 14,000 regulated facilities in Oklahoma.A facility (point source) emissions inventory is a report with detailed information about equipment and activities that release emissions, the processes that occur at these equipment, and quantities of emissions.The collected inventories are used in estimating point and area source emission amounts for the U.S. EPA’s National Emissions Inventory. This position will process inventories, perform data analysis, and provide assistance to industry.
Predominantly (up to 95%) in an office setting, work with other section members to perform all duties assigned in order to complete the annual air emission inventory process for over 14,000 permitted facilities statewide. The process includes production, distribution, collection, and verification of math calculations for air emission inventories. All regulated facilities (with the exception of <100 dry cleaners) utilize our online reporting system, SLEIS.
Provide good customer service – provide assistance and training to industry on preparing and submitting annual emissions inventories, including giving formal presentations and public speaking. Respond to customer inquiries received via phone, email, and office visits, following established procedures and timelines.
Position focus is on data analysis. Perform quality control on submitted inventories, and as assigned, electronically submit the required inventories to EPA. Work with other section members to estimate emissions from source types other than point source.
Use word processing programs, databases, spreadsheets, and other applicable software for the entry, review and analysis of inventory data. Produce reports and charts using the data in response to requests from other sections, agencies and the public.
Become knowledgeable of TEAM, the Air Quality Division’s internal database; SLEIS; WebFIRE, EPA’s online emission factors database; EIS, EPA’s Emissions Inventory reporting System; and other similar emission inventory tools.
Become knowledgeable of state and federal rules that pertain to emission inventories and be able to apply these rules equitably and consistently.
Applicant must have a valid driver’s license and be able to travel throughout the state on occasion. Rarely (0-2 times per year), in-state or out-of-state overnight training may be necessary.
Level I - bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester hours in a physical, natural, or biological science, chemistry, geology, hydrology, physical geography, epidemiology, environmental science, environmental health or civil, agricultural, environmental, geological or chemical engineering.
Level II - those identified in level I plus one (1) year of professional experience in one of the areas listed; or a master’s degree in a qualifying area.
To be considered for this position applicants must be within 60 days of obtaining their degree.
Preferred Education:
Math classes, such as Algebra, Calculus and Statistics.
Desired Education:
Air quality, chemistry, and meteorology classes.
Applicant must be able to operate a personal computer for several hours a day.
Applicant must be able to listen and communicate effectively over the phone and over online calls
Applicant must be able to walk occasionally over a variety of terrain such as loose gravel, slopes and open pasture.
Applicant must be able to carry equipment or supplies up to ten (10) pounds.
Applicant must be able to sit behind the wheel of a vehicle for several hours a day.
Applicant must have the temperament to remain calm when faced with conflict.
