Clinical Veterinarian

Neuralink is developing bi-directional neural interfaces to restore function and transform human-computer interaction. The Veterinary Medicine team seeks a Clinical Veterinarian to provide clinical and surgical care, anesthesia management, welfare oversight, and regulatory-compliant veterinary support for in vivo programs involving sheep, Yucatan pigs, and non-human primates.

Skills

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) with eligibility for state licensure
  • Minimum of 3 years in laboratory animal medicine or completion of residency (or >5 years’ experience)
  • Proven skill in anesthesia, analgesia, perioperative and surgical techniques for large and small research animals
  • Strong knowledge of animal welfare regulations and compliance (IACUC, USDA, FDA, GLP, AAALAC)
  • Experience training and supervising veterinary/technical staff
  • Effective oral and written communication of clinical and scientific information
  • Ability to perform and interpret clinical diagnostics and implement preventive medicine programs

Responsibilities

  • Oversee health and welfare of sheep, Yucatan pigs, and non-human primates through regular exams, diagnostics, treatments, and preventive medicine
  • Develop, implement, and manage anesthesia, analgesia, perioperative, and postoperative care protocols
  • Provide clinical and surgical support for neurosurgical and other in vivo procedures
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and institutional standards (IACUC, USDA, FDA, GLP, AAALAC)
  • Develop, review, and maintain SOPs, health surveillance plans, and technical veterinary documentation
  • Collaborate with research staff on study design, execution, and preclinical documentation
  • Train and supervise technicians and study personnel on species-specific care, anesthesia, surgical procedures, and regulatory requirements
  • Serve as a member of the IACUC and participate in semi-annual inspections and protocol review
  • Advise on housing, enrichment, husbandry, environmental monitoring, and facility modifications

Education

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or equivalent)
  • Eligible for state veterinary licensure
  • Completion of a residency in laboratory animal medicine or equivalent experience preferred
