Netflix is one of the world's leading entertainment services, with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.
Netflix's success has depended on an industry-leading engineering organization building cloud-native services with exceptional resilience. Cloud Infrastructure Engineering delivers the platform underneath these services by following three tenets: simple, scalable, speed. We build simple, elegant solutions that are easy to adopt, highly available and efficient at internet scale, and support rapid development for engineers across the company.
The Network Services and Insights (NSI) team owns the foundational Network software services that underpin the addressability, security, and telemetry of the Netflix network globally. We are looking for an Engineering Leader passionate about making things appear infinitely scalable and frictionless while being understandable and debuggable. The team connects the dots across other products and features to allow us to ship end-to-end experiences, not org charts.
NSI owns services that manage global-scale infrastructure across foundational services such as Firewalls, Addressability metadata, and Network Security boundaries. In addition, you will own a Network telemetry software stack, encompassing things like enhanced flow logs, that enables the rapid triaging of connectivity for users across Netflix engineering. You will be experienced at owning absolutely critical global-scale services that can stop the world and know how to lead a team to deliver at the highest operational and quality standards.
NSI is also re-architecting the approach to managing and exposing modern cloud connectivity/traffic features, building on top of Netflix’s own federated resource management platform. You will own some of our key bets, ship overarching abstractions, and create APIs enabling Netflix developers to completely change the way they interact with the products and infrastructure delivered by the broader cloud infrastructure organization.
What you will do:
Own vision, strategy, and the end-to-end outcomes of the core services underpinning Netflix’s global network connectivity and telemetry.
Drive ongoing simplification of the experience of interacting with network infrastructure at Netflix.
Evolve interfaces evermore towards an intent-based connectivity platform and application-facing traffic observability at Netflix.
Collaborate effectively across several partner teams, focus on the user, prioritize ruthlessly, and get things done.
Grow a world-class team of stunning colleagues, keep them challenged and growing professionally.
Make data-driven decisions, make bets, learn from failures, be in situations without obvious right answers, and create an environment where rapid iteration is the top goal.
Who we are looking for:
A product-focused Leader who has a passion for building platforms.
A deeply technical Manager who understands the development & management of distributed systems and at-scale software services.
You are outcome-focused and able to think from first principles.
A Strong software development focus that abstracts away complexity and guides the team to deliver simple, powerful solutions to customers.
The ability to drive Engineering Excellence, exercise technical maturity, embrace emotional intelligence, know what they don’t know and when to listen/learn, and advance conversations even when the right thing is unclear, ambiguous, or unknown.
A proven track record of shipping/solving hard problems with tricky technical or organizational constraints and complex migration efforts.
Organized, informed, effective communicator and influencer using context, not control. Not only someone who’s strongly aligned with the culture (we really mean it), but who would embody it on the team.
Experience building and leading software engineering teams with a focus on inclusion and diversity.
