Lead Software Engineer, Ordering Services

The Role:

Minted seeks a passionate and experienced engineer to lead the architectural evolution of our Ordering Services team. This role is pivotal in shaping the next generation of our Orders Platform, driving its transformation from a legacy monolithic system to a modern, scalable microservices, and event-driven architecture. You will spearhead key business functionalities, including cart, checkout, A/B Testing, transactions, and fraud detection. As a technical leader, you will drive innovation, mentor team members, and ensure seamless collaboration with engineering, product, and leadership teams to achieve strategic objectives.

• Lead the architectural design, technical planning, and execution for the Orders Platform, with a primary focus on its decomposition from a monolith into a modern, event-driven microservices ecosystem
• Work closely with other lead engineers to drive the strategic technical planning with a 12-18 month future view, centered around our migration to microservices
• Develop and execute a strategic roadmap for the phased migration from our legacy monolithic system, applying best-practice patterns (e.g., Strangler Fig, Branch by Abstraction) to minimize risk and ensure business continuity
• Identify tooling for development, testing, and deployments that improve the development experience, specifically for a distributed architecture, and drive their implementation
• Oversee development processes, including system architecture, code quality, and deployment pipelines for new and existing services
• Architect and build resilient, scalable microservices for core functionalities like cart management, payment processing, and fraud prevention, ensuring seamless integration and data consistency
• Enhance system performance and reliability through iterative improvements, leveraging data-driven insights and observability in a distributed environment

• 10+ years of professional experience as a software developer
• 5+ years of experience as Staff/Lead
• A B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Strong, hands-on experience architecting, designing, and building scalable, resilient microservices and event-driven architecture systems
• Proven track record leading the migration of complex legacy monolithic systems to a microservices-based architecture
• Excellent knowledge of monolith-to-microservices migration patterns, such as Strangler Fig, Branch By Abstraction, and Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles
• Strong hands-on programming skills in more than one language with a strong preference for Python
• Effective verbal and written communication skills to articulate complex architectural decisions to engineers and senior leadership alike
• The ability to understand business problems and synthesize types that accurately model them within a distributed domain
• The desire to ship is greater than the desire to polish
• Expertise in cart systems, payment gateways, and fraud detection mechanisms is a plus

Compensation: 

The compensation range for the role applies to employment offers from Minted. Our employment offers fall between the minimum and midpoint of the range to allow for continued salary growth during your employment at Minted. The upper half of the range accommodates this growth and supports our intention to create an environment that encourages lasting relationships between Minted and our employees.

Geo Base Full Salary Range 0 - Includes SF Bay Area $173,600- $227,850

Geo Base Full Salary Range 1 - All non-SF CA, DC, NY - $159,712- $209,622

Geo Base Full Salary Range 2 - Includes CO, IL, MA, MD, NJ, OR, RI, TX, VT, VA, WA - $147,560- $193,673

Geo Base Full Salary Range 3 - Includes AL, AK, AZ, AR, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, LA, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, MT, ND, NE, NM, NV, NH, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, UT, WI, WV, WY- $135,408 -$177,723

Salaries will vary based on various factors including but not limited to professional and academic experience, associated job responsibilities, and/or other business or organizational needs.

This role is eligible for an annual performance bonus and stock options.
