"The company’s objective is the manufacture and distribution of food products in such a manner as to promote a mutuality of services and benefits among all stakeholders."
—FORREST E. MARS, SR., 1947
It all began in 1911, when Frank C. Mars established Mars’ roots as a confectionery company when he made the first Mars candies in his kitchen in Tacoma, Washington. 9 years later, Forrest E. Mars, Sr. joined his father in business and together they launched the MILKY WAY® bar. That was it, there was no stopping them! In 1932, Forrest, Sr. moved to the United Kingdom with dreams of building a business based on the “mutuality of benefits” for all stakeholders - this vision serves as the foundation of the company we are today.
Fast forward over 100 years, this foundation has proved its strength. We’ve built one of the world’s leading FMCG companies, delivering quality brands, products and services to consumers around the world. Now, with more than 140,000 Associates spanning over 80 countries, we remain a family-owned organization. Taking responsibility, seizing opportunities and thinking in generations, we’ll achieve great things for our communities, our pets and ourselves - working today for the world we want tomorrow.
But, how does this translate to our brands? We have four business segments where our Associates apply their efforts, and this is what they look like:
Mars Petcare
Mars Petcare is part of Mars, Incorporated. We’re a family-owned business with more than a century of history making diverse products and offering services for people and the pets they love. Our portfolio includes almost 50 brands serving the health and nutrition needs of the world's pets – including brands: PEDIGREE®, WHISKAS®, ROYALCANIN®, SHEBA®, CESAR, AniCura, BLUEPEARL, Linnaeus, WISDOM PANEL™ , BANFIELD and WHISTLE™. We’re building a thriving and inclusive workforce reflective of the many pets and communities we serve. Learn more here.

Knowledge is at the heart of our business, and our Associates have already produced innovative technologies, which have positively impacted the health and wellbeing of people, pets and the planets. Understand what it means to be a part of our team here.
We love that people (and pets) love our brands, and we work to reflect that through our actions. Our choices, big and small, all add up to create a healthier, happier world - the kind of world we want to see tomorrow.
We’ve been a family-owned business for more than 100 years. Why? Because it gives us freedom. We are free to take a long-term view, and use every day as an opportunity to nudge the world forward. Our Associates have the power to work with freedom, support and trust, to pursue their passions and drive ideas from concept to reality. Working together today to forge the relationships and build the skills needed to shape how work gets done tomorrow.
The Five Principles are vital to our mission, they are at the foundation of everything we do. All our Associates strive to live by Quality, Responsibility, Mutuality, Efficiency and Freedom, each and every day. United by this common goal, and with relationships built on trust, dignity and mutual respect, we will achieve great things for our planet, our communities and our pets. Learn more about our Principles here.
We care deeply about sustainability, and we know that to change the world tomorrow, we must understand our impact today. That’s why we have our Sustainable in a Generation Plan, focused on three key areas - Healthy Planet, Thriving People and Nourishing Wellbeing. From investing in renewable energy and speaking out about climate change, to improving conditions in our supply chain, we’re working to make sure that everyone benefits from our growth. Our Associates are a key part of our sustainability mission. Through the Mars Volunteer Program and Mars Ambassador Program, together we will build the future we want to share.
