Skills
- ASCP (or equivalent) certification required or evidence of pending certification within 90 days
- Hands-on experience performing hematology, chemistry, microbiology, serology, immunohematology, and urinalysis testing
- Proficient use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and accurate documentation practices
- Ability to perform and interpret quality control and troubleshooting on lab instrumentation
- Strong communication and teamwork skills for inter- and intradepartmental collaboration
- Understanding of safety practices related to blood-borne pathogens and infection control
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory tests across hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, urinalysis and related disciplines according to established procedures
- Document results and critical values in the LIS and communicate abnormal or urgent findings to appropriate clinical staff
- Perform and document daily quality controls, participate in proficiency testing, and follow up on QC issues
- Operate, maintain, troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments
- Maintain supplies inventory, place orders, and conserve laboratory resources
- Support interdepartmental workflow and handoffs; serve as mentor/technical resource for new staff and students
- Maintain a safe, clean work environment and comply with safety protocols including blood-borne pathogen precautions
- Participate in continuous process improvement and laboratory quality program activities
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework meeting ASCP requirements for MLS/MT certification
- ASCP, AMT or equivalent certification (MLS/MT) required or evidence of certification within 90 days of hire for new graduates
