Speed and reliability are the foundation of the system. Logos is designed to extend cloud and data center network connectivity anywhere in the world to fixed, seaborne, and airborne terminals.
Logos is led by a team of highly experienced engineers with proven track records in the networking and satellite industries.
Position Summary & Responsibilities
The Flight Dynamics Engineering team at Logos Space work on the design, development, flight validation, assembly, integration, test, and inflight success of the logos fleet of spacecraft. Flight dynamics engineering is responsible for ensuring the success of our network via the development of flight guidance navigation and control algorithms and validation of flight software via models and hardware testing. The development of suitable facilities and computational frameworks to also fall within the purview of the flight dynamics team. Flight Dynamics engineers will support activities for the entirety of the spacecraft and ground operations from the idea stage to flight.
You should be prepared to work and thrive in a fast moving environment where you are comfortable taking vague design ideas and turning them into tangible hardware ready for test and flight. We are seeking engineers who love to solve hard problems
The full responsibilities include:
Technical Leadership: Provide technical direction, mentorship, and guidance to a team of flight dynamics engineers. Oversee task assignments, review analyses, and ensure the technical quality of the team's work.
Operations: Responsible for building the flight dynamics team and the development of the Logos flight dynamics laboratory, integration of flat sat hardware with software for full system level testing in closed loop.
Mission Design & Analysis: Lead the design, development, and optimization of spacecraft trajectories and orbits to meet mission requirements. Perform analyses for various mission phases, including launch, orbit insertion, station-keeping, and disposal.
Orbit Determination (OD): Oversee and contribute to the process of determining and predicting spacecraft orbits using various tracking data types (e.g., GPS, TDRS, ground-based radar/optical). Evaluate OD accuracy and maintain the operational OD system.
Maneuver Planning: Lead the planning, calibration, and execution support for spacecraft maneuvers (e.g., orbit correction, station-keeping, collision avoidance).
Attitude Dynamics: Perform analysis related to spacecraft attitude determination, control, and pointing performance. Collaborate closely with the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) team.
Collision Avoidance: Oversee operational collision avoidance screening, risk assessment, and maneuver planning.
Tool Development & Validation: Lead the development, maintenance, and validation of flight dynamics software tools and simulation environments using tools like MATLAB, Python, STK, GMAT, Orekit, or proprietary software.
In Loop Testing: Responsible for the development of software in loop and hardware in loop testing to validate flight control algorithms and accurate delivery of payload services
Operational Support: Provide flight dynamics expertise and support during real-time mission operations, including anomaly resolution. Develop and maintain operational procedures.
Documentation & Reviews: Prepare and present technical documentation, analysis reports, and review materials for internal and external stakeholders (e.g., design reviews, mission readiness reviews).
Cross-functional Collaboration: Interface effectively with systems engineering, GNC, mission operations, software development, and program management teams.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with relevant mechanical design and analysis work experience
10+ years of professional experience in spacecraft flight dynamics, orbital mechanics, or mission design and analysis.
Demonstrated experience leading engineering teams or complex technical projects.
Flatsat closed loop testing of flight hardware and software
Deep theoretical understanding and practical application experience in orbital mechanics, estimation theory, and attitude dynamics.
Proficiency with industry-standard flight dynamics software (e.g., STK, GMAT, FreeFlyer) and analysis/scripting languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
Experience with orbit determination and maneuver planning processes for operational missions.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical concepts clearly.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math) with relevant mechanical design and analysis work experience
Experience across multiple mission phases (launch, early orbit phase, mission ops, de-orbit)
Experience with a full product lifecycle (concept, design, integration & test, operations)
Experience with specific mission regimes (e.g., LEO constellations, GEO, HEO, interplanetary).
Experience with advanced flight dynamics concepts such as formation flying, low-thrust trajectory optimization, rendezvous and proximity operations.
Experience developing and validating operational flight dynamics ground systems.
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
Experience with spacecraft attitude determination and control systems (ADCS/GNC)
Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Security Clearance
