This role will be based in Mountain View, CA.

The work location of this role is hybrid, meaning it will be performed both from home and from a LinkedIn office on select days, as determined by the business needs of the team.

The Product Application Infrastructure (PAI) team's mission is to build reliable, efficient, and intuitive world class tools and infrastructure that amplify productivity of product engineers that create our suite of member facing frontend applications. The PAI-API team owns the company-wide frontend API architecture and libraries that power our core member facing experiences. We support hundreds of application engineers building the data models and APIs that our frontend clients use. These engineers make 3,000+ commits each quarter across massive codebases of over 2 million lines of code.

The ideal candidate will be excited for the challenge to transform and think critically on many computer science disciplines including user and developer experience, user-centric applications, business logic, scaling performance, and 24x7 reliability. They will also play a critical role in helping their team build, maintain, monitor, and deploy our frontend API stack.

Responsibilities

  • You will manage the performance and career development of a small team of engineers, and own significant parts of LinkedIn products that require design, architecture, and coding.
  • You will participate with senior management in developing a long-term technology roadmap.
  • You will be a role model and professional coach for engineers with a strong bias for action and focus on craftsmanship.
  • You will work with peers across teams to support and leverage a shared technical stack.
  • You will manage teams to scale distributed applications, make architectural trade-offs applying synchronous and asynchronous design patterns, review code, and deliver with speediness and quality.
  • You will develop multi-tier scalable, high-volume performing, and reliable user-centric applications that operate 24x7.
  • You will produce high-quality software that is unit tested, code reviewed and checked in regularly for continuous integration.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 1+ year(s) of management experience or 1+ year(s) of staff level engineering experience with management training
  • 5+ years of industry experience in software design, development, and large-scale software engineering
  • Experience programming in object-oriented and/or functional programming languages (like Java/Python/C/C++/Scala/etc.)

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS or PhD in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • 2+ years of hands-on software engineering/technical management and people management experience
  • 7+ years industry experience in software design, development, and algorithm related solutions.
  • 5+ years programming experience in languages such as Java, C/C++, C#, Python, Go, etc.
  • Experience in the design, development, and operations of performant, highly available, scalable applications
  • Knowledge of data modeling and querying principles
  • Understanding of common performance patterns and anti-patterns in distributed systems
  • Successful track record of managing small teams of engineers to deliver multiple projects on time and with quality
  • Active involvement in the creation and execution of technical strategies and roadmaps

LinkedIn is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices.

The pay range for this role is $147,000 - $240,000. Actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location. This may differ in other locations due to cost of labor considerations.
