Fullstack Engineer (Remote - US) - job 1 of 4

We are seeking a Fullstack Engineer to join a remote, cross-functional team focused on creating innovative, human-centered solutions for government and large-scale public systems. In this role, you will work across both front-end and back-end technologies, crafting APIs, developing scalable applications, and integrating AI-powered tools to enhance software delivery. You will have a direct impact on millions of end users by improving system performance, accessibility, and usability. The ideal candidate is proactive, curious, and collaborative, with a passion for solving complex problems in meaningful, high-impact environments. You will be part of a self-managed team that values autonomy, innovation, and continuous learning.

Accountabilities

• Design, develop, and maintain front-end and back-end components for web applications.
• Build and optimize service APIs and integrations using modern frameworks and architectures.
• Troubleshoot production issues and improve system performance.
• Apply design patterns and best practices to ensure code quality and maintainability.
• Integrate AI-powered tools and services into the software development lifecycle to enhance efficiency and delivery.
• Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and mentorship to strengthen team capabilities.
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams to address challenges and contribute to system-wide improvements.
• Support organizational engineering practices, including recruitment, hiring, and community engagement.

• 4+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer working with complex architectures.
• Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, JavaScript/TypeScript with React, and testing frameworks like RSpec and React Testing Library.
• Experience experimenting with or utilizing AI tools and services in software development.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and self-organizing team practices.
• Strong problem-solving, pragmatic decision-making, and experimentation skills.
• Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to evolving project needs.
• U.S. residency for at least 3 of the last 5 years; willingness to discuss occasional travel if required.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

• Cloud development experience (AWS, Azure) and CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
• Experience with polyglot programming and government digital services.
• Familiarity with the U.S. Web Design System.
