At Shield AI, we’re building advanced autonomous aircraft that are redefining what’s possible — and we’re looking for a Metrology Engineering Technician to help ensure every component meets the highest standards of quality and accuracy. In this role, you'll be responsible for programming and operating Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and other advanced metrology equipment to perform dimensional inspections of aerospace components. Your work will be essential to verifying that all measurements meet drawing requirements, GD&T specifications, and AS9100 quality standards — ensuring that our products are not only high-performing but also fully compliant with industry benchmarks. You’ll support everything from new product validation to routine inspections and root cause investigations, playing a key part in the development and delivery of cutting-edge aerospace systems. This is more than just a technician role — it's an opportunity to work hands-on with next-generation technology and contribute directly to the safety, performance, and reliability of aircraft systems that will define the future of aviation.

What You'll Do:
  • Program and operate Hexagon Portable CMM using PC-DMIS software to perform inspections on incoming materials, in-process parts, and finished products.
  • Perform dimensional root cause analysis on suspect non-conforming product.
  • Analyze quality data and generate reports for management, providing insights on trends, performance, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain inspection programs, ensuring all products meet quality specifications and comply with industry regulations.
  • Inspect and verify the quality of parts, components, and assemblies, using precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, and other hand tools).
  • Write and maintain detailed inspection reports, in-process inspection sheets, and documentation to track quality standards throughout production.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards such as ISO 9001, AS9100, and internal quality benchmarks.
  • Collaborate with production teams to identify, document, and address quality issues or defects, working proactively to resolve any problems.
  • Perform routine maintenance and calibration of the Hexagon Portable CMM and other inspection equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Assist in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and contribute to cost-saving measures related to quality control.

Required Qualifications:
  • Experience as a CMM Programmer, Quality Inspector, or similar role within a machine shop or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Hexagon Portable CMM programming, specifically using PC-DMIS software.
  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, materials, and quality control systems.
  • Proficient in using a variety of precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.).
  • Experience with quality management systems and familiarity with industry standards, such as ISO 9001 and AS9100.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex quality issues.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to continuous improvement in all aspects of quality control.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
