A day in the life of a Principal Software Developer:

Takes on a leadership role, guiding the development of software solutions and overseeing teams. They are responsible for architectural decisions, technical direction, mentoring junior developers, and ensuring the quality and scalability of software products. Their duties span from initial planning and design to deployment and maintenance, requiring a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills.

If you’re a highly skilled, experienced technical leader that can guide the overall software development process, including architecture, design, development, and implementation. A leader that can provide technical guidance, mentorship, and feedback to team members, ensure adherence to best practices and standards, and enjoy being involved in researching new technologies. 


Key Responsibilities of a Principal Software Developer:
  • Technical Leadership: Provides technical guidance, mentorship, and feedback to team members.
  • Architectural Design: Leads the design and implementation of software systems, focusing on scalability, performance, and reliability.
  • Project Management: Manages projects from conception to completion, ensuring they meet deadlines and quality standards.
  • Software Development: Writes and reviews code, develops and tests software solutions.
  • Problem Solving: Troubleshoots complex issues and identifies solutions to improve software performance and stability.
  • Innovation: Researches and evaluates new technologies and methodologies to enhance software development practices.
  • Collaboration: Works with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and DevOps engineers, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
  • Communication: Communicates technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences


What we are expecting from you (i.e. the qualifications you must have):
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or an equivalent technical degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Target Experience: Fifteen (15) years’ experience in leading and directing the technical and operational projects as well as for defining the software requirements/specifications, with Five (5) years’ experience in software management or software development experience 


Special Qualifications:
  • Information Assurance Technical (IAT) Level III,
  • Information Assurance Workforce (IAWF) Baseline Requirements any of the following: CASP+CE, CCNP Security, CISA, CISSP (or Associate), GCED, GCIH, CCSP


Required Level of Security Clearance: Top Secret

Expected Travel: 15% CONUS locations as required
