As R&D PCR Scientist within the BioAnalytics Research & Development team at IDEXX, you will be a key contributor at one of the largest diagnostic companies in the world. You will help to create, design, and validate laboratory testing that supports biomedical research and contributes to the advancement of biomedical research and the health of pets, people and livestock throughout the world. You will develop real-time PCR (qPCR) assays for established, new, and emerging infectious agents and other organisms.
You will validate real-time PCR (qPCR) assays
You will develop and present validation reports for newly designed assays
You will develop and validate droplet digital PCR (ddPCR) assays for various genetic alterations, SNPs, non-standard opportunities (NSOs)
You will investigate and evaluate new technologies in the field of diagnostics
You will perform QA/QC
You will troubleshoot new and existing assays, diagnostic machines, and other problems based on in-depth knowledge.
You will conduct experiments to evaluate a variety of sample types, sampling methods, and sample processing and workflows
You may perform cell culture experiments
You will analyze large sets of data
Bachelor’s with 5-7 years of experience or Master’s degree with 3-5 years of experience as a molecular biologist, which may include developing and validating real-time PCR (qPCR) assays, ddPCR assays, genetic analysis, and/or sequence analysis is required.
Experience troubleshooting real-time PCR (qPCR) assays and diagnostic machines is a plus.
The ability to work with cross-functional groups or teams
Enthusiasm about working in a team
The ability to concentrate on details and can work independently, reliably and precisely.
While not a requirement, experience with Primer Express™ software, Sequencher® software, or using the NCBI BLAST® online tool is a plus.
Experience with ddPCR or other digital-based PCR (dPCR) systems is preferred
Experience with other biomedical research techniques such as cell culture is preferred
Exceptional written & oral communication skills
Experience with MS Suite of Products (Word, Excel, PP, Outlook, WebEx, Teams) to support remote meetings, sharing of information, and reporting
Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab – standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting up to 50lb, and specific vision ability – close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
This is a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biohazards, infectious agents including human and animal pathogens, and hazardous chemicals.
Schedule:
This is a full time (40 hr/wk), daytime shift position with hours Monday-Friday 8:00am – 5:00 pm; we may need you outside of those hours from time to time, so flexibility with scheduling will be key. Reliable and dependable attendance is an essential function of the position.
