Skills
- Proven expertise designing and operating distributed systems at massive scale
- Hands-on backend or platform engineering experience, especially with Go, Ruby, or similar languages
- Deep knowledge of observability, monitoring, and incident response practices
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, disaster recovery, and fleet/service delivery
- Ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior leaders without formal authority
- Strong communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
- Demonstrated mentorship and leadership of senior technical staff
Responsibilities
- Define and own the long-term roadmap for Production Engineering focused on availability, performance, and cost-effectiveness
- Design and lead implementation of complex distributed systems solutions (sharding, multi-tenant isolation, failure recovery)
- Drive observability, monitoring, and incident response improvements to increase production readiness
- Collaborate with product, engineering leadership, and executives to align infrastructure choices with business outcomes
- Mentor and develop senior and staff engineers to raise technical excellence across the organization
- Anticipate scaling challenges and define repeatable patterns and architectures for reliability and efficiency
- Champion modernization efforts while balancing operational efficiency and cost
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- Advanced degree (MS/PhD) or continued professional education is beneficial but not required
- Evidence of continuous learning and contributions to engineering practice
