Director, Internal Communications

Job Description

Responsibilities 

  • Serve as a senior counsel on internal communications to GM senior leaders in technology and engineering, overseeing strategic, multi-office initiatives that impact significant organizational priorities. 

  • Proactively develop strategies and programs to address emerging internal challenges, anticipating potential issues before they escalate.  

  • Balance daily operational needs with long-term strategic priorities to ensure effective internal communications. 

  • Draft, produce, and edit thoughtful and creative and multi-medium communications that engage employees and deliver the right messages. 

  • Be a change management expert and help with organizational engagement and communication priorities. 

  • Lead cross-functional collaborations to ensure cohesive and impactful messaging across all internal channels. 

  • Lead on crafting and delivering executive communications, including speeches, presentations, and key messages. 

  • Monitor and analyze the effectiveness of internal communications, leveraging insights to refine strategies. 

 

Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s Degree  

  • 10+ years working in internal communications and/or public relations 

  • Incredible written and verbal communication skills 

  • Experience working with high-level executives , preferably technical executives 

  • Excel at interpersonal communication and collaboration, fostering positive relationships with individuals at all levels and from diverse disciplines 

  • Confidently navigate various settings, from collaborative work groups to executive presentations 

  • Proven ability to synthesize large amounts of information and rapidly translate them into actionable solutions 

  • Exceptional project leadership skills delivering high-quality results on tight deadlines 

  • Collaborate effectively with and influence stakeholders across the company 

  • Skilled in engagement strategies, content creation and multi-channel campaigns 

  • Work closely with the Global Tech and Innovation Communications team and ensure consistency across internal and external comms and serve as a role model for what is possible 

 

Location: Warren, Michigan or San Francisco Bay Area  





Additional Job Description

  • Location: This role is based in (Warren MI, or Mountain View, CA), you are expected to report to that location three times a week, at minimum.

    Compensation:

    The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paid in accordance with applicable state laws.

     

    The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position, as well as geography of the selected candidate.

    • The salary range for this role is $110,000 - $172,100. The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.
    • Bonus Potential: An incentive pay program offers payouts based on company performance, job level, and individual performance.
    • Benefits: GM offers a variety of health and wellbeing benefit programs. Benefit options include medical, dental, vision, Health Savings Account, Flexible Spending Accounts, retirement savings plan, sickness and accident benefits, life insurance, paid vacation & holidays, tuition assistance programs, employee assistance program, GM vehicle discounts and more.

    Relocation: This role is NOT eligible for relocation benefits
