Senior Backend Engineer - Tools and Automation
Skills
- Experience building workflow automation and orchestration systems (e.g., Temporal or similar).
- Strong backend development skills (Golang preferred; proficiency in Python, Java, Ruby, C#, Rust, etc. acceptable).
- Solid system design experience for distributed, scalable, and reliable systems.
- API design and versioning for composable integrations.
- Familiarity with event-driven architectures (Kafka, RabbitMQ, or similar).
- Database experience with relational (Postgres, MySQL) and NoSQL stores (MongoDB, DynamoDB).
- Observability, testing, and performance optimization best practices.
- Practical familiarity with AI-assisted development and when to apply LLMs for automation.
- Experience building tools and internal platforms that support engineering and operations.
Responsibilities
- Design and deliver automated workflows that map and reimagine manual operational processes in partnership with ops and product teams.
- Own and extend foundational systems that enable composable, reliable, and observable automation capabilities.
- Design and build well-structured, versioned APIs for integrations across internal and external systems.
- Build, test, instrument, and monitor systems powering behind-the-scenes processes for the marketplace.
- Identify and advocate for automation and system improvements that align with strategic objectives.
- Collaborate with teammates through pair programming, design reviews, and code reviews to raise engineering quality.
- Leverage AI-assisted tools and LLM helpers to accelerate delivery while maintaining clarity and maintainability.
- Apply AI/LLM solutions judiciously—use them where they provide leverage and avoid them when traditional engineering is more effective.
- Work cross-functionally to balance human judgment with automated efficiency and support operational teams.
- Contribute to team culture, mentoring, and continuous improvement of how the team learns and delivers.
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field (required).
