Staff Software Engineer
Skills
- Strong backend development experience (Ruby on Rails, Node.js/AWS Lambda)
- Experience with GraphQL (Apollo Server) and REST APIs
- Familiarity with frontend work in React
- Experience with Postgres and data modeling; knowledge of Snowflake preferred
- Operational experience with Sidekiq or background job systems
- Hands-on experience building and maintaining integrations with payers, EMRs, and billing systems
- Domain experience in RCM, insurance, or healthcare workflows
- Proven use of feature flags, progressive rollouts, testing, and observability/monitoring
- Understanding of security and compliance considerations (HIPAA) in healthcare systems
Responsibilities
- Own the technical design, implementation, and operation of real-time insurance eligibility verification integrations across multiple payers.
- Investigate and resolve eligibility and billing discrepancies to improve data accuracy and reduce operational burden.
- Design, maintain, and operate EMR integrations that power patient data synchronization, scheduling, and chart updates.
- Own Candid billing integrations and related RCM workflows including claim creation, submission, reconciliation, and issue resolution.
- Build and operate ETL pipelines for exchanging data with benefits, billing, and external partners.
- Develop and evolve backend services (≈80%) and supporting frontend work (≈20%) using Ruby on Rails, Sidekiq, Node.js (AWS Lambda), GraphQL, and React.
- Implement feature flags, progressive rollouts, and safe deployment practices to enable incremental delivery and mitigate risk.
- Improve platform infrastructure, GraphQL APIs (Apollo Server), and data models (PostgreSQL, Snowflake) for reliability and performance.
- Collaborate across product, operations, clinical teams, and external partners to translate requirements and troubleshoot integrations.
- Promote engineering excellence through code reviews, mentoring, documentation, and knowledge sharing.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Relevant healthcare or domain training a plus
