Skills
- Strong working knowledge of TypeScript and modern React (web) development.
- Experience building GraphQL APIs and Node.js backends.
- Solid SQL skills and experience with Postgres (experience with PostGIS a plus).
- Familiarity with automated testing (jest, cypress or similar) and CI/CD (Github Actions).
- Practical experience with cloud deployments (AWS, ECS or similar).
- Proven experience in code review, architecture discussions, and design docs.
- Demonstrated people management and mentorship experience for engineers.
- Ability to work remotely within Eastern or Central US timezones and clear written communication.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of 4–5 engineers, owning delivery quality, correctness, and timeliness.
- Spend 20–30% time on hands-on coding across frontend and backend, including tests.
- Provide technical leadership: architecture planning, design documents, and code review.
- Support career growth with one-on-ones, quarterly reviews, mentorship, and coaching.
- Pair program and mentor junior engineers to raise team competency and code quality.
- Collaborate with product and design to translate customer needs into technical plans.
- Ensure robust testing, CI/CD, and reliable deployments to AWS and related infrastructure.
- Drive clarity in ambiguous domains by asking questions, researching, and documenting decisions.
- Participate in planning meetings, sprint planning, and cross-team coordination.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Relevant professional experience in software engineering and people management.
- Permanent U.S. residency or citizenship required (no H-1B sponsorship).
