- Expert-level PostgreSQL administration and performance tuning
- Experience with HA configurations, backups, and disaster recovery planning and testing
- Familiarity with related data technologies (Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka, DynamoDB, object storage)
- Experience maintaining production SQL systems including DDL changes and hotfixes
- Ability to create and track KPIs for database health and performance
- Experience designing and maintaining database snapshot pipelines for lower environments
- Benchmarking and performance testing experience
- Collaborative experience with Data Engineers and cross-functional teams
- Scripting/automation skills for operational tasks
Responsibilities
- Analyze database performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements.
- Investigate alerts and collaborate with engineering teams to deploy fixes.
- Review database schema changes (DDL) and coordinate safe data hotfixes.
- Assess database impact of new features and initiatives.
- Plan and execute maintenance tasks including version upgrades and DR tests.
- Build and ship optimizations; measure and report performance gains.
- Participate in daily stand-ups and cross-team collaboration via Slack and other tools.
- Maintain pipelines of database snapshots for lower environments with privacy considerations.
Education
- Applicable Computer Science degree preferred but not required
- Equivalent professional experience accepted in lieu of formal degree
